Good luck removing Norton when it's expired, anything you install afterwards will invariably be fooked.

Do a google for "norton removal tool" then get avg free and windows defender (or whatever ms call it these days)

Use firefox instead of internet explorer too and you'll never get ads or popups again

I'd reccomend FireFox or Google Chrome, Problem with Chrome is its still in Beta stages, But its a very quick web browser.

I would steer clear of IE at the moment, After reading about the Security Loop Hole it has

AVG is very good and there are a host of other freebies available. Personally I use AVG. The problem to my mind with the Norton's of this world is the crap it installs. Norton and McAfee in particular install no end of startup stuff and associated programs. They are all resource hungry so slow down your computer.

As for popups, an easy way to get rid is to install the google toolbar, it has an excellent popup blocked.

file transfer protocol

you generally search for stuff to download on t'internet and at some stage a lot of them will redirect you to a FTP: address to download your whatever. With FTP you are looking at directories on the host server. You need to have an idea what you are doing.

You can install a different browser using IE...... As the new browsers dont require a credit card or personal details to buy them, As they are FREE So you'll be fine

Oh and IE8 is going to be awful!!

When I draw up a list of things I did in my life that I'm really happy about, switching from Internet Explorer to Firefox, is going to be high up on that list.
