Gold Coast boss Bleiberg closes in on Hartlepool striker Porter
13.12.08 | tribalfootball.com
Gold Coast United boss Miron Bleiberg is ready to close a deal for Hartlepool United attacker Joel Porter.

Bleiberg watched the Australia international in action last week and told the Gold Coast Bulletin: "I liked what I saw.

"It's well known that we've been interested in him for a while now and hopefully he will join us.

"He's strong, direct but also has very good technical qualities. If he came he would do a good job, I have no doubt.

"But we cannot talk to him officially until January."

Joel Porter has been entirely professional this season playing for a club that he doesn't want to be at. He's as good as gone. He's now almost fulfilled his contract and very soon Pools will discover that contracts come to an end and it works both ways..

Spot on Mr I.

He's 99% away in the summer and all the best to him.

When he's been fit he's been best player since he joined and will be a bigger loss to us than any other player at the club.

I said this months ago, Joel's day at Pools are numbered, and who can blame him.

He's not going to go any higher that League One, he's got one big contract left in him, the idea situation would be a three year deal back in his home land, he's played himself into a position and that will now happen.

I thank him for his efforts, when fit he's been a very good addition to Hartlepool United.

So can we please stop demanding Pools try to get him to sign a new contract, it's a waste of time.

Of course there is a ready made replacement who we can take to in January, Mr Boyd bbolt

if joel goes, we are up shit creek, his goals have saved us a lot of points this season, without him, i can see relegation being a certainty

One of the best strikers ever to play for pools in my opinion.

A legend.

You can't fault him if he wants to go back home.

yeah yr right mate. pools shouldnt even bother trying to keep their best players. man utd did the exactly the same with ronaldo in the summer. he wanted away so they let him go.

Aye but taking your anaolgy a touch further, had the cheating prancing ladyboy twat been out of contract he would have been away faster that a naked Boydy over a building site.

"they liked what they saw"? Didnt they watch the Yeovil game where he took a knock early on and did very little?

Spot on Chip, until the deal is done nothing is certain, Pools should bust a gut trying to keep Joel, at least if he's playing in English football there is always a chance he could be spotted and given a move into the championship. Playing in his homeland chances to play at a higher level would be almost nil, the Aussie S league is like the MSL without the money, lots of has beens on one last payday.

Would you like to explain what you want Pools to do. The guy is 30 on Christmas day (truly the son of god!), he's half a world from his home town, its 'kin cold and wet outside and today he will line up against Hereford in front of 3000 football fans.

How exactly are you going to tempt him to stay at Hartlepool United?

Sign his pal in the January transfer window thus reuniting our best ever front two and offer him a new and improved contract, that's how

Well it's widely known that Joel is not one of the higher wage earners at Pools so offer him the same wage as our player of the century mat be a start. It seems the Aussies are going to offer him a 3 year deal so we should do the same, we can't do any thing with the weather or the crowds but we can make life more comfortable for him.

I have never seen the Aussie league on TV but going on what Chip has said the standard is poor and there isn't any big name players playing this season, I checked on the super league website and only recognised a handful of players so IMO he would be dropping down in standard of play.

As for the homesick bit, when he is old & gray and his playing career is over ie in 4 to 6 years he will have time aplenty to rejoice in his homeland and get a tan.

Boydy is out of contract in the summer and would walk over hot coals to come back to Pools, it wouldn't take much to persuade Orient to sell as they are losing him for nothing in the summer.

were people listening to my loud ranting and raving last week in the Mill after the game?? I think it must have dawned on a lot of people that you must replace quality with quality, and I was proclaiming the January signing of Boyd as the next coming.
Well, putting over a 1,000 back on the gate anyway as it would at least show ambition and re-ignite peoples' imaginations again

between Kyle and Boyd it's a no-brainer. Qulity striker who can create a chance out of nothing or a tub of lard who I cannot believe ever broke through into the professional ranks, never mind got international caps and played in the top flight!!!

chip as the world knows he would have been away if the club didnt enforce their one year clause on his contract. So he was gone before the club insisited on enforcing this clause, which is why he had to stay.

With all the will in the world, I just can't see it happening this time around and I'm fairly positive that he's had enough and is on his toes, destination Oceania. It would take some sizeable amount of finance to disuade him and his family otherwise I reckon.
