Putting emotion to one side. Is the sentence passed on Tony Blair (the fuel thief not the ex-PM) harsh or fair?

* He is the bloke who inadvertentally brought on the heart attack for the farmer's wife. He admitted to aggravated theft.

On the face of it, it seems extremely harsh.

Harsh?

If someone drove into you and left you lying in a ditch would you think it was harsh?

Should have been at least 10.

got what he deserves, the poor woman was obviousley shitting herself, i mean if someone breaks into a house and steals 1 pound, does he get a leaner sentence than someone who breaks into a house and steals 20,000 pounds, its all the same crime to me thieving scum, doesnt matter about the amount or substance, these are peoples homes and people should feel safe there.

Blair, of Leeholme Road, Leeholme, near Bishop Auckland, was on bail in connection with 4x4 vehicle thefts when he was caught stealing red diesel from East House Farm.

Mr Dove, helped by sons Michael and John and grandson Graham, who had joined him from their own farms nearby, pursued Blair across fields.

When he found himself cornered, Blair turned around the silver Mitsubishi L200 he had stolen two days earlier and drove at Michael, who was on foot.

The 44-year-old was hit by the pick-up and knocked into a ditch, suffering a fractured hip and head and hand injuries.

I don't think it was a harsh sentence at all.

Ah ok, I didn't see the bit about using a 4x4 as a weapon. I thought he had just been tumbled having some fuel away. Still seems a long time though.

To be honest if someone had been responsible for my mum's death and I knew they'd be out in 2012, I'm not sure I'd see it as a 'long time'

Not long enough if you ask me.

justice, injustice sctatchinghead

there's always people who do worse but get shorter, and do a lesser crime and get longer.

in this instance though he stole a 4x4, diesel and then tried to kill with it

about a fair sentence

I thought this was going to be a thread about how long it was since Darlington have competed with Pools!

So come on then Phil how long is it since they had a better side than us?

The only thing IMO that is better at Darlo than here is the footballing contacts that Penney has thus allowing him to get decent loan players in.

that has got to be one of the quickest thread diversions in message board history, considering there was a whole page of posts about the original topic!!!!
