Good article.

Much better than the knobjockeys (journos etc) on the radio yesterday saying that Arsenal should ban everybody who was booing and that booing at football matches was a blight on the game and that irrespective of how much you pay to go and watch you should not be entitled to voice any sort of opinion.

The day when it is only acceptable to sit and politely applaud at football is the day that I stop going.

Well i think hansen puts it right, he agrees as fans we have a right to react how we like, but tries to make people understand the reaction a boo or a bad response has on a player.

so all these people who constantly boo young foley are to blame for destroying the poor kids confidence. Well that and the fact he is crap!

I think anyone who boos there own players deserve a sla.........hang on best not say that!

If anyone wants to boo foley then as a fan they have that right and they've paid there money so they can do so.

But i hope this article goes to show the effect the abusive having on him, other players, his confidence, the chances of him actually succeeding at this club, 'cos i'm sure we all want him to succeed, cos if he does then we do.

i think its fair to say that those that boo him are part of the reason why he looks like a startled rabbit in front of some headlights. Just look at matty robson now that he isnt being booed, he has improved ten fold.

so what you are saying mr c&t is that the crowd helped turn matty into the player he is today?

I would say the constant jeering and booing put him back in his development by at least 2 years. The people who did that should be ashamed, not proud

Here we go, the "I'm a better fan than you" argument.

And as for quoting the Matty Robson scenario......sorry like....but the fans just didnt suddenly stop booing him, he proved everyone wrong by playing through the booing. He showed great character..

And that's necessary is it?? 'Cos I'm a bit lost as to how it helps. At the moment a lot of people are saying put the kids in. The kids could get totally destroyed by one mistake and a fifteen minute pillorying from the morons.

When I was young they used to get me counting sheep

But the counting I did was all in vain

Now when I'm tired and I'm trying to get to sleep

I count humans jumping onto trains

didn't have you pegged as a fan Elvis.....

"Let's take an example of a player doing five good things, five average things and five bad things in a game - if a player is popular the fans will remember the five good things and if he is not so popular they will remember the five bad things."

How true is that remark from Hansen. Certain people on here only see the bad things that Humphries does, for example. Meanwhile a fair number also only see the good things he does. While the truth lies in the quote, he is doing all three, and hopefully a larger percentage of good than bad.

Feeling a bit mixed up about booing at the minute. I would have agreed with the anti-booers normally, I've never done it and think its usually just going to make a bad situation worse. I did boo Brian Mawhinney at Cardiff but nobody joined in- odd as he is a vicious old tosspot and a leech sucking a living out of football whereas the likes of Foley do try their best for Pools.

Anyway, after four home games from Toulouse FC I'm starting to wonder. TFC have been dire with the players showing no commitment/desire/passion at all and the fans just sit and take it. In the case of a lack of effort I think booing might be OK, at least it shows some involvement. Lack of skill, awareness or judgement it still seems pointless to me.
