it's like many songs...it may have been something many people liked a few years back.... but when something gets done to death, way beyond the point of it's been eaten, shat out and reborn as a shrub somewhere, it's probably not a song you want to hear again in the next 50 years. By which time I'll be dead.
How shop workers put up with those compilations I'll never know.
I bet they're all waiting for the day the Council bans Christmas in the town, so they won't have to listen to them.
I simply avoid the town anyway, especially in December.

It's the biggest load of Xmas Bollocks ever, I said it on the first day it came out, and I still think it now.

The Pogues were shiit.

100% disagree I am afraid Mr Elvis, it's the only Christmas song I like and IMO the Pouges ain't shit.

just thought of another I like.

I think it's a Christmas classic. But what do I know? I thought Ritchie Humphreys played well yesterday (not great chip).

Come on lads, lighten up

I love Chris Rea and The Pogues with KM, makes me smile

FFS in the words of Noddy Holder, It's Christmaaaas !
now that one reminds me of New Year's Eve's in the Fiesta, years ago,
when most of you lot were probably tucked up in bed waiting for Santa

(mind you I've always been pissed off by Jonal Louie , or however you spell it)

and speaking of Noddy, what's happened to Lord Smythe lately, surely not another Bunker lost soul

Just as well you won't be at 5-a-side for a few weeks Phil, because you won't be getting any more 8 goal hauls again after that remark.

Simply the best Christmas song ever. The only thing that gets me through having to listen to compilations played at work, during the hell that is December at work, is waiting for 'Fairytale' coming around again.

This has reminded me of a Poll I was going to put up.

Good version by a great singer.

I love I Was a Teenage Jesus by The Bluetones

I LOVE The Pogues but that song is stupidly overplayed. Can't listen to it anymore.

Elvis - youre wrong,Fairytale is a class song & The Pogues were a great band & Shane MacGowan is an excellent storyteller
I will concede that fairytale is overplayed to the point where even a fan like me is sick of hearing it.

Mr I,we all know about your Bobby Sands song by now,its been repeated more often than Fairytale.
Just out of curiosity, how come we haven't heard any songs about the likes of Michael Stone ?
Is killing catholics not as disgusting as killing protestants ?

I have to say i hate it, i'm with phil on this.

It sounds a big mess, the first time i heard it i didn't know what the hell it was, just a big load of dog poo mess!!

There is no such thing as a good christmas song, there all cheesy and tacky and i hate them all.

And i aint no scrooge i dont mind christmas, just don't like the songs.

Rather here the youngun sing jingle bells and miss half the words out than hear that pogues one.

You can get a very strange sitar version of Little Drummer Boy by Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra on emusic.com. I only downloaded it because it's free but now I'm listening to it a lot and might have to pay up for the whole album.

Worst Christmas song I own is Christmas In Hollis by Run DMC. So bad that I can't get rid of it.

The Waitresses Christmas Wrapping at least had a quirky novelty quality. The Spice Girls cover of it has no redeeming features whatsoever.

Fairytale Of New York isn't actually a Christmas song. It mentions Christmas once and Christmas Eve once. In the second reference he's in nick for being pissed and she then tells him to stick Christmas up his arse. It's tale of failing Irish immigrants, even the choir mentioned aren't singing carols.

Nowt about Baby Jeevus in there at all.

It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, wont see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This years for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day

Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy christmas your arse
I pray God its our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
Ive built my dreams around you

5 times it is then.....

Fook me; if "and the bells were ringing out on Christmas day" isn't about Christmas I fail to see what is.

Add in the two choruses you left out and we'll agree on seven.

If you want a real non-Christmas Christmas song look no further than Greg Lake.

They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth
Hallelujah Noel be it Heaven or Hell
The Christmas you get you deserve.

How cynical can you get!

I never said the song wasnt about Christmarse, just pointed out you slightly over-exaggerated a little

Right, seven times in three contexts. Four repeated.

So where's the theme?? Christmas or failing American Irish immigrants??

Or did he buy her the hospital treatment as Christmas cheer?? confised
