West Brom

Second Division

Wolves
Burnley
Sheff United
Preston
Cardiff
Swansea

Third Division

Oldham
Peterborough
Scunthorpe
Leeds
Stockport
Tranmere
Walsall
Southend
Northampton
Huddersfield
Colchester
Carlisle
Orient
Swindon
Hereford
Cheltenham

(Bizarrely never Crewe and I have refused every year to go to Franchise FC. I will go as soon as AFC Wimbledon are ahead of them in the league stucture.)

Fourth Division

Wycombe
Bradford
Darlington
Shrewsbury
Rochdale
Bury
Brentford
Exeter City
Gillingham
Cheaterfield
Lincoln
Port Vale
Macclesfield
Accrington
Notts County
Morecambe

Barnet
Rotherham
Grimsby
Luton
Bournemouth

Only 61 league grounds. A few years ago I counted 72 but with departees and ground changes my total is much diminished. Makes it all the more important to go to Brighton, Crewe, Yeovil and Bristol Rovers this season.

I wonder who has seen Pools win at most grounds - Parmo, Mad John or ECG maybe?

Quick question...

Results aside, basing it totally on 'away day experience'...

Are away games better in the modern day or back in the day?

I always felt that, loved the crack in the car, seeing other fans at service stations, the pub before, stopping off for fish and chips on the way back (only with the mullen family that mind)

Thank God for understanding Wives eh?! clappp

I'm a jinx I reckon. I've been to Scunthorpe and Blackpool every time Pools have played at those grounds since the early/mid eighties....... and the only 3 visits I missed to each all resulted in vicories!!!! Old Show Ground in 87 even Nobbsy scored!!! Missed that, plus the one when Dalton scored at their new ground cos I was on 2 till 10 shift, then didn't go last season cos I was on nights!!! How the fuc-k did I manage to do that?? The best results I seen at Scunny were a couple of draws!!!! Ditto Blackpool!!! Although I was there when Savile scored THAT goal!!!!
I'm over 30 different grounds for wins although some of them have disappeared or changed beyond recognition.

Edit: Nobbsy didn't score that day, but I could have swore I remember him on the scoresheet in the papers!!!!

I've seen Pools win at these::

Darlo(both),York,Tranmere,Halifax,Torquay,Rochdale,Carlisle,Wrexham,Chesterfield,Hereford, Walsall,Stockport, Shrewsbury (old), Preston, Reading (old ground),Runcorn (old), Chorley,Huddersfield ( both), Sunderland (old), Hull (old), West Brom, Bournemouth, Bolton (old), Fulham, Stoke (old), Bradford, Doncaster (old), Leyton Orient, Cambridge, Bury, Scarborough (old), Colchester (old), Swansea (old), Barnet, Chester (new), Mansfield, Lincoln, Cheltenham, Plymouth, Kidderminster, Macclesfield, Exeter, Oxford (new),Boston, Southend, Peterborough, Oldham, Wycombe, Rushden, Burton (old), Swindon, Gainsborough, Fleetwood

that's 41 current grounds
and 14 grounds which are no longer there.
A few bad misses by me in recent years due to work or holiday committments, namely Burnley, Bristol City, Grimsby, Port Vale, Millwall, Accrington, Notts Co, as well as my old friends Blackpool and Scunthorpe. Been to them all except Millwall and Accrington. Just remembered Bristol Rovers as well.
That's another 10 grounds my win total could have been!!! It's 55 old and new, but could easily have been 65!!!! Although to be fair two of those grounds I've yet to visit at all (namely Millwall and Accrington).

There's loads of grounds I've almost given up hope of seeing us win at, some it's not possible to do anymore cos they're gone or going to be flattened

Cardiff: Ninian Park- they scored in the last minute to equalise the first time I went there in 87. Another time we were two up and ended up drawing,2-1 up in the last minute and lost 3-2. I don't think we'll ever win there, seeing as how they're moving into a new ground next season

Brighton: Goldstone Ground and Priestfield and Withdean - several visits Pools have never beaten these away either in their history (same as Cardiff and Gillingham) - another graveyard. However I have a feeling we've turned our jinx round on them and January 31st is going to be our time!!!!

Brentford and Gillingham: - how come we don't get to play them down there when they're at their shitest (i.e.right now - by the time we play them they'll be good again and we'll never beat them away)
Plenty other grounds I've visited plenty of times and never seen us get anything, as well as one off visits.

I've just worked out that Fleetwood (including the Vic) is 38th ground I've seen Pools win at, so I've done alright for wins compared to some baring in mind my first away game was in about 1989!

I'm guessing the figure was probably still in single figures up until Turner taking over too! I'm sure mine was.

Not much more than double figures I'd guess and it would been far worse had it not been for the 90/91 promotion season!

If Pools was positioned where Darlington is geographically I'm sure we'd take more to away games as their station. I'd be surprised if there was an away game in the League that you could get to from Darlington that required more than one change somewhere.

I've always said that. It much easier to get to away games from Darlington, they are right on the A1 as well as the East Coast Main Line which makes most away trips easier. Yet we still take more away just about every week!

I used to get really peed off when we had these teams going out of the league in the North to be replaced by teams deep down south. Went past Barrows ground recently, some places never change.

Yeah I saw that when watching the match, it was like looking at the Town End about 1990, spookily so as the main stand with terracing either side looked like the Clarence Road side except we had a shit 'stand'... sent a shiver down my spine.
Funny part was, driving into Barrow, the she wolf said there's Rhino's grazing in a field... she was right as well, it's a safari park, but for a second....

Unbelievably, despite it's location, it's a really good Safari Park!

Barrows still a bit ropey, like. My relations live in Ulverston which is really nice.

I quite like that bit of the County...at work I got offered the Managers job at our Carlisle Branch about 5 years ago and I thought long and hard about it..could have moved to say Penrith or Keswick area....Mmmmmmm...Birketts Pasties and Kendal Mint Cake!
We were in Grange over Sands and went to Barrow last year and had a look at the vickers ... oops BAE dockyard and ended up down Walney Island, which I quite enjoyed, some of these places which sound crap are really not that bad.
Luton is shit however, worked there at George Kents, oh it's bad.

I was talking to a bloke from Barrow last year, about 50 odd year old. He says Barrow is traditionally a Lancastrian town, and was shoved into Westmoreland and subsequently Cumbria during his lifetime. He says the Lancashire heritage is still passed onto the younger generations. I must admit that's the first time I 'd ever heard that.

scroll down the page and it lists traditional Lancashire towns, and Barrow in Furness is indeed a town historically based in Lancashire

Barrow was moved into the new county of Cumbria from Lancashire in the same way Bournemoth was moved from Hampshire to Dorset in the local government reorganisation in 1974... and Hartlepool was moved into Cleveland from Durham, ...from whci the only beneficiary was Middlesbrough, thank fook it's history.

Millennium Stadium Cardiff

I make that over 60 grounds! Ones that I am sick not to have visited include Scarborough and Fleetwood.

Ones I should have been to by now but have never made it for one reason or another are Carlisle, Colchester, Brighton, Wycombe and Hull.

Grounds I would like us to play at include Wembley, Anfield, St James' Park, Villa Park, and Goodison. Who knows? once we've put Stoke out, we'll beat Liverpool, Villa and Everton on the way to the FA Cup semis and final. And next season be facing the Skunks in the Championship.
