How much am I looking at to buy a decent drum kit? Second hand is fine.
I'm assuming that the plectrum sticks are reasonably cheap?

Mr I, if you want a second hand drum kit in good nick the only ones you are likely to find are cast-offs. Any serious drummer is going to wear his gear out before considering selling it. All of which means if you want a "decent" make, it's not gonna be easy finding what you want...

Glad to be of help.

As for the bats, I'm reliably informed they cost next to nowt.

Well, since you're so knowledgeable, I'm looking for a second-hand fiddle, craftsman made, not a a soul-less factory thing. Preferably one of ancient European origin which the seller is willing to let go for a song. :coool:

You can spend upwards of £1,000 on a decent drum kit. My flatmate's just got a top-of-the-range electric kit for £450 though - a Yamaha that sounds perfect but can use headphones. I'd think about getting an electric one if it's mainly for indoor/practice use, and it'd still work fine with an amp at a gig.

I've got one that matches one of your criteria.

Electronic kits sound like shiit. Endof, even "Through an Amp"...for which I hope you mean through a P.A. Desk?

Mr I...is it for one of the kids? I got our Alice a very nice, SECOND HAND Premier kit 2 years ago, cost about £200 for quality gear including stands/cymbals etc.

E-bays yer place

Aye, its for my daughter who had decided she wants to get evicted. I'm leaning towards the electronic ones purely because of the headphones.

yep e-bays yer best bet for now, cos it could just be a phase/hobby in which case you dont want to have shelled out 1,000's on summat that gets rarely used....

avoid electric kits like the plague, as ecg says they sound awful, as do those 'flat' kits....avoid avoid avoid, because if she does want to take it up and perseveres you'll be left with this really rubbish bit of tat that is useless in a band and no-onw will want to buy off you....

you can get practise pads that work fine, cut the sound out but still give you the feel for the drum, pack the bass drum up with blankets to deaden the sound jobs a good un.
reducing the cymbay sound is harder, and you can get practise cymbals but theyre shit too.
all i ever did was cut a hole in the middle of a tie and attatch it to the stand where you put the cymbal on, fasten up the sponge things and allow the tie to drape over the cymbal. cuts a lot of the loudness out.

if you do buy a really good kit and she packs it in, i'll have her cast-offs!!!

That drummer's hair could do with cutting.
