It's fair to say last night wasn't classic, far from it but on another night we still could have won the game. Lets be honest if Bristol Rovers had ALB in nets and not Steve Phillips we would have won the game as our keeper wouldn't have made either of those two saves from Robson. You get games like that over the course of a season, you accept that.

I couple of things puzzle me tactically at the moment. One is the use of Kyle. Last night we played without (as we do nearly every game) without any out and out traditional wingers. I say that in the sense of someone who will get to the byline and cross the ball. Monkhouse and Brown both like to link up with the forwards with balls into feet and are more effective coming inside. Apart from one cross from a corner Kyle had nothing to thrive off, I'd still like more from him but he got no service.

My other gripe is his deployment of Matty Robson. Matty has done really well this season as an impact sub on the wing (easily his best position). Yet when he gets his opportunity to start it's as at full back stpid Last night he was probably our brightest player but I still think at times this was a determent to the shape of the team. Monkhouse likes to come short and receive the ball to his feet from the full back and interchange short passes with the forwards, when we are playing well him and Humphreys do this very well. Last night Matty was either crossing it from too deep (a tactic that is very easy to defend and rarely results in a goal) or knocking it longer into to the forwards. He gave Monkhouse nothing whatsoever into his feet. I don't think Monky has been anywhere near his best over the last couple of weeks but he cut a frustrated figure last night. He's one of those people who has a bit of lethargic posture and when things aren't going right for him he gives off a vibe that he isn't trying or doesn't care, I don't actually think that's the case.

Matty Robson and Andy Monkhouse are both left wingers, very different left wingers you can't play them in the same team. They should be competing for the same shirt and on form Matty should probably be starting at the moment (and he's an out and out winger re. my point about Kyle) This is all a consequence of our completely unbalanced squad and lack of full backs.
