...in view of Mr Platini getting backing from top politicians in Europe for a change to the rules regarding the financing of football clubs within Europe. He wants them to finance themselves on their earned income and not on their having sugar daddy chairman financing clubs for a hobby, outside help in that form of unearned money would not be allowed.
Watch the Premiership clubs start a recruiting drive for new fans if it's partly based on gate receipts ... they'll be wooing us here too. sadx

French league arguably one of the worst in Europe - beware Platini! He's a strange one old Platini - he appears to have a Stalinist approach to football management which involves restriction of trade (players) and restriction of investment (sugar daddies). As much as I hate what money (Sky) has done to football I can't see Platini's ideas working either. This will hit 'small' clubs as well as big ones I reckon - Wigan/Boro/QPR/Portsmouth etc.

Back to the drawing board Sir - something needs to be done but not this. Telly money and share of gate receipts may be a better approach to redistribution of Premier league wealth. One thing's for sure - all problems are difficult until they become easy and this one still sits in the difficult category. (imo)

If it gets rid of the borers and Wigan, bring it on...seriously though(apart from the borers) Platini does have a problem with English football and takes a football puritans attirude to the game, a sort of footballing purist but for the wrong reasons. He has been waging a war against the game over here since he got elected and it seems to have become a crusade with him. ... mind you, he is French.

The French system of inspecting the books before a season starts is a good one though. If you're in financial chaos you can't play. The big drawback is that almost all French clubs lose their best players within a year or two of them making a debut- they can't compete with the high spenders/borrowers from England, Spain and Italy and keep their balance sheet in order.

I can understand why Platini is unhappy with the way some clubs buy success and I don't think he's anti-English, just anti-ManU, Chelski etc. Accusing him of a Stalinist approach just because he wants some restraints put on the free market seems a bit odd when an unfettered banking system has just dragged us all into a recession. Even odder coming from a Leeds fan- maybe Platini's plan would have stopped Ridsdale spending your season ticket money on goldfish.

Platini is taking the lead from his hero Napoleon.
"Doesn't matter if it's any good as long as it's nicely defined and regulated down to the last dot on the i."
