the anti-national team attitude that some posters have on here is as dull and inflexible as the hype surrounding the premiership and all its hangers-on.

i watched that game tonight and saw an england second team comprehensively outplay a german team that wasn't a million miles away from first choice.

mr capello is an absolute breath of fresh air. no bullshit, no superstars, no excuses. if some of the posters on here claim to be football fans then this shyte about 'not supporting england' is shown up for the posing stance that it is.

we've underachieved at the national level for years, but at long last we've got a manager who doesn't worship at the feet of the old guard, and who is not afraid to pick players in form regardless of status or past history with england.

i'm actually finding myself looking forward to england games now

If we keep performing like we have of late I think these people you mention may change a bit, but it's probably understandable that people became disillusioned with friendlies especially. Remember when Sven was making 11 substitutions? We've gone from Steve Mclaren to having one of the best managers in the world, if we don't do anything under him we never will!

If any England team are doing well this country will back them, deep down we're more patriotic than we think!

As far as I'm concerned, that's the first time a Capello team has impressed me. But they really did impress me.

Before tonight it was just more of the same. Better organised perhaps, but more of nonetheless.
Don't get carried away; let's see if the McClaren/Ericsson failures are allowed to get their noses back in first.

Nothing to do with patriotism, more to do with despair. Don't tell me you've never despaired Aido.

For once Aido, I agree totally. Good post

I was really looking forward to last nights game, more so due to the fact that the old guard were out injured. When we play our younger players they play with hunger and bottle.

When is the next England game?

the anti england fans we're well justified in my opinion after many years of over hyped dross.

Prima donner pampered players who didn't give a toss about wearing the shirt.

I'd still ditch Gerrard when he's fit, never wants to play for england, drops out when his eyebrow gets scratched or summit, whats the betting he's fit and playing for liverpool this weekend?

The current manager is top notch and has restored some pride and passion in the way we play.

Bring on safrica 10!

not aimed at any one person in particular MJ. i've been as unenthusiastic as many about the years of hype and pathetic underachievement, so i'm not getting carried away. however, i am encouraged by what capello has set out to do. to retain the same attitude to england now that someone is changing the whole approach is a bit like saying "martin scott was a wanker, therefore all future pools managers will be wankers"

I'll bet you've seen Burnley in the flesh a few times though John (I mean that in a witnessing-a-football-match-type-of-way)

Maybe like a lot of people I just got bored with England and their nicely formationed tippy tappy draws against Macedonia etc. It never looked like it was going to get better when if you've got a hundred million pounds worth of footballer on the pitch it bloody well should.

For too may years, it was like pulling the best looking bird in the club and finding out it was your Scout Master after a sex change.
