With all other things seemingly equal, is thare any reason not to take the cheapest insurance on offer?
I can't help being suspicious when I check and find some companies offering almost half price compared with Tesco, whom I took in a hurry a year ago but nonetheless found relatively cheap at the time.

Agreed. The Bell/Admiral/Elephant group seem most competitive by far. Tescos insurance is not cheap!

Just beware of any add-ons (such as legal cover) that might be included in your current policy, and the excesses.... I usually go onto Confused to check it out, SwiftCover usually come out cheapest, but their excesses are twice as much as anyone else....

Look at both voluntary and compulsory insurance too. Some offer cheap deals because these are very expensive.

Tesco have a 'tesco value' insurance which is cheap but would become expensive if you ever needed it.q

Although insurance companies can generally be banded into cheap, not so cheap, a bit high, steep and fkin rip off, no one company is the cheapest for insurance. It depends upon how many policies they are currently holding against their optimum and whether they actively want to boost, maintain or reduce that number at a given point in time.

The little things to check are windscreen cover, excess and whether or not you get a guaranteed courtesy car (not "if available"). I don't see the point in paying for legal cover, it's one of their little scams. If you want to make a PI claim and have a good case you'll get somebody to take it on for you as a no win no fee job.

I thought legal cover was to protect you in case someone took you to court?? Or is that part of the third party cover?
In any case it's the only difference between the ones I've shortlisted (i.e., how much you pay extra for that).
I stipulated 100 snodgers excess and a courtesy car. They all do windscreens, although I had mine replaced in August and I'm hoping lightning won't strike twice in quick successsion!

The best deal seems to be the Green Insurance Company. Anyone heard of them? They sound like fellow tree huggers.

What would somebody take you to court for though? Unless you'd breached the terms of your insurance then they'd be making a claim against your insurance company, not against you- and if you had breached then their legal cover wouldn't stand anyway.

I've got it down to 216 quid now from Churchill compared with Tesco's original 475!

£475? For a bloke your age? What were you trying to insure? A Porsche?

I only pay about £275 and I'm young!

I think the first year was an introductory shag pile job: I never paid anywhere near that.
Anyway, mine's less than yours now, kidder.
