hopefully the difference this time being the fact that the world's biggest dictatorships are turning slowly towards capitalism. When that happens, where do these tinpot dictators get their money from? Even the Maldives outgoing dictator said that democracy was inevitable in that country. Also the advent of worldwide travel and the dismantling of invisible walls (i.e. prejudices) and people might actually understand each other worldwide for the first time in history. The internet is going to be a key player in the transfer of knowledge and information - which is the thing that ultimately destroys dictatorships. If you only ever have access to information that's been censored by government, then you're not in the best position to make balanced judgements and choices as to what is best for your society as a whole.I may be wrong, but I hope this will be the way forward.
