At last.

After starting looking in to this 21 years ago and keeping records since, the DEFINITIVE A-Z (well Y  ) is now available for subscribers to order.

The Sell

It's absolutely immense. Starting with the Egyptian Tewfik Abdullah (who is photographed in print for the first time) to Billy Younger every player is in there.

And I mean every.

Every official first team game, so we have included League Cup, FA Cup, the Mickey Mouse Cup in all it's formats, every WWI and WWII game and every friendly decreed as a first team friendly. So if a player has played in one of these games then they're included.

Reserve games and minor local cups (DSC, SSOC) etc are not included.

There 1500 players in at least half of their profiles/biographies are acoompanied by a photo.

Countless players (and their families) have been contacted for info and photos and these cover the full 100 years.

The good, the bad and the ugly.
The bums.
The grafters.
The former internationals
and those loooking for one last pay day - They're all in there and it's finest book EVER on the club we all follow.

272 A4 pages jammed pack and full to the brim. Faces and names we'll all remember and ones we want to forget. And certainly haircuts that some of the players would want to forget.

Subscribe Now

I had sold the work to a third party but following failure to reach the terms they initially agreed, I've taken the bold step of self-publishing and therefore the book is going to be a limited print run. Following a last minute deal with a printer the price of the book is able to be capped at £18 (compare this toother clubs it's cheap - Swansea's was £27!!) and will last you a lifetime. You'll pick it up, and won't put it down, and you'll look at it again and again and again. Proper lithographic printing with a smart glossy cover too.

Any book sold to Bunkerites will see a payment made under Bunker terms for each unit sold, but for more than the 5%, to the Bunker Kids footy fund or whatever it is. Please mention BUNKER tho when ordering.

Each subscriber will need to send the following details and they will be listed in the back of the book and if you want it signing I'll oblige.

Name, Town of Residence (i.e. where you live), year started going and favourite player.

If you don't want to state where you live as a special concession to Bunkerites you may name the town of residence as The Bunker.

So for example we have

Gremlin, The Headland, 1908 ( ), Ritche Humprheys

Or

Chip, The Central, 1972, Joel Porter ( )

You get the idea...

At last something positive and something to look forward to.

PM or email (colalifoster@ntlworld.com) me for details on how to pay. All books from Saltburn to Easington will be delivered personally and free of charge.

The rest of you (UK) will need £3 P&P and if it's any less, I refund cash when sending - overseas - I'll advise individually.

Expected date of delivery to you is 6-8 weeks. I'm hoping for nearer to six though.

I can't wait, really really can't.

MODS - make it sticky please

Throughout the past century more than 1500 players have worn the club's
colours in a first team fixture since the board of West Hartlepool Rugby
Football Club took the decision to change codes to Association.

Exclusively available here, each and every one of the players has their
stories told. From the greats such as Josh Fletcher, Jonny Wigham and Andy
Linighan are the not so well known - the likes of Joe Osmond, George Oxley
and Steve Winn.

Then there are the unknown players. Those who have played for the club but
never in a league or cup game. The WWI guests such as Bob Pailor and those
from WWII - Raich Carter and Bill Nicholson fall into this category. Also
included are those who have appeared for the club in first team friendlies
and testimonial games - some famous - some not. From Mannion and Clough to
Cunnington and Kendal, they are all included.

You'll read about a Lord, Postmen, Swindlers, Welders and Soldiers and many
more.

Whether great or indifferent every player can be found inside. It doesn't
matter what you or I as fans think about them, for the fact exists that they
have done something that we all want to do and that is play for the club.

Smile at the greats, wince at the embarrassments but remember them all.

A Century of Poolies - The Who's Who of Hartlepool United 1908-2008 is
available now for pre-order.

A good response so far and over 50 subscribers from all over the country and Brazil, New Zealand and USA.

14 of them have either been by PM or mentioned bunker in the email meaning £14 for t'bunker footy kids fund.

I appreciate greatly the response of those who have replied and know you'll enjoy the book as much as i was as frustrated writing the bloody thing.
