Isn't it worn to remember ALL War dead from every nation???? sctatchinghead

But if that includes 'controversial' figures like Hitler etc then I think it is disrespectful and one reason I would never wear one!!!! confised

Plus it's worn as the same time as the Red Poppy which is raising money for charity so tom me it's competition which isn't needed and again....disrespectful!!!! confised

But I wouldn't challenge anyone who wears one....it's their choice!!!! confised

The White Poppy symbolises the belief that there are better ways to resolve conflicts than killing strangers. Our work, primarily educational, draws attention to many of our social values and habits which make continuing violence a likely outcome.
From economic reliance on arms sales (Britain is the world's second largest arms exporter) to maintaining manifestly useless nuclear weapons Britain contributes significantly to international instability. The outcome of the recent military adventures highlights their ineffectiveness in today's complex world.

This is the blurb from the place I bought my daughters white poppy, even if I disagree with some of the sentiment I feel it's her decision and I have to respect it.

Maybe so, but I hope you took the cost of it out of her pocket money!

And thousands died to give her that decision and freedom to do it...

Fredom is freedom though, Mr Dough, for people to use as they will.
Otherwise there wasn't much point fighting for it.

The red poppy has historical significance and is traditional, t represents the poppies that grew on the Western front. The funds go to the RBL who have looked after ex servicemen for the best part of a hundred years.

The white poppy is the product of the worst kind of commie loving, white flag waving unwashed lefties who spout their nieve agenda without the first clue what they are on about and miss the irony that the wars that they object to are those same actions which allow them to sell their disrespectful copies.

The money from the sale of poppies (for there is only one real kind) goes to the RBL
The money from the sale of white poppies is kept by the white poppy crew for 'education' or propaganda purposes.

Incidentally, I know no one person who has been to war who promotes armed conflict. Once you have seen how truly horrible the effects of armed conflict are you don't really want to go back. War is sometimes necessary unfortunately and will always happen as long as the human race exists. No amount of hand wringing by the pacifists will change that.

We (humans) sometimes produce monsters and these monsters sometimes get into positions of real power; Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, numerous African leaders. Someone has to stop them and that duty falls to the armed forces. When they get injured, and most do in one way or another, the RBL is there when the politicians aren't and the rest of the population doesn't really care.

Anyone tries to sell me one will get it rammed up their arse in a very warlike manner.

Iwas hoping someone would say it in such a manner, as I was struggling to put it into words as well as that. Well said Mr I - I also feel a protest against war is not appropriate when remembering the war dead. There should be another time for protests, and not by means of an attempt at hijacking Remembrance Sunday.

Spot on Mr Parmo. I will happily defend peoples right to free speech (though not to the extent the old soldiers did, I admit) but this is definitely one of the times when saying nothing is far more important than saying something bad.

Don't mention the Russians, or did I imagine them invading Afghanistan, building a wall across Germany and generally being just as big a bounder on the world stage as the Yanks

Oh and North Korea, I suppose the fact the Koreans are starving to death as nowt to do with the fact their crackpot leader spunks all the cash on nuclear bombs and John Wayne fillums, rather then feeding his population
