I've spent the best part of my life being told by the pc brigade and the media via newspapers, tv and the 'net that race doesn't matter, people are people whoever they are and wherever they are from. Fair points, but all that's changed now.

While I understand what you are saying I don't think Britain is anywhere near having a black Prime Minister, threads like this prove it. It is significant, but the reason he's in that position in because he's the best candidate and has been given the opportunity to be the best candidate. Is that the case here? I don't know but it is a talking point.

The fact that his skin colour is an issue shows we have a long way to go until the day it isn't.

Certainly he was the best man for the job but that's been eclipsed by the colour of his skin. Which is my point, we are constantly told that race/colour of skin doesn't matter. When it's white against black only though IMO. When it's the other way round it's significant.

From my perspective its not the obvious wind up about Obama being black. It's pretty obvious. Racism is a two way thing, some of the black people in the Deep South are just as racist as your Grand Imperial Wizard next door. That's what I'm saying, the day we have utopia is the day we have any person of colour getting a top job without his skin being mentioned. The fact it's taken so long for the West to have a coloured leader suggests it clearly is an issue. An issue among White and Black people it's a two way thing.
