A strange one this.

I've spent the best part of my life being told by the pc brigade and the media via newspapers, tv and the 'net that race doesn't matter, people are people whoever they are and wherever they are from. Fair points, but all that's changed now.

Why the big carry-on about the first black president of America? He's just another man in the chair isn't he? Like the previous 43. I thought everyone was equal? What's the significance?

Or is racism only a one-way thing?

One of the best posts i've ever seen on here was made by Mr I regarding the black policeman's association.

While I understand what you are saying I don't think Britain is anywhere near having a black Prime Minister, threads like this prove it. It is significant, but the reason he's in that position in because he's the best candidate and has been given the opportunity to be the best candidate. Is that the case here? I don't know but it is a talking point.

The fact that his skin colour is an issue shows we have a long way to go until the day it isn't.

Certainly he was the best man for the job but that's been eclipsed by the colour of his skin. Which is my point, we are constantly told that race/colour of skin doesn't matter. When it's white against black only though IMO. When it's the other way round it's significant.

From my perspective its not the obvious wind up about Obama being black. It's pretty obvious. I'm not keen on racism either way. my t'other half is Asian so I can claim to be not entirely racist but Mr 3quid is right, it works both ways and by definition the black policemans association is an exclusive organisation.

My pissedoffness is more about posts that are designed to bring the board down to rivals levels at their worst. The initial post of this thread was one of those and add to that the direct abuse. It's not needed.

Racism is a two way thing, some of the black people in the Deep South are just as racist as your Grand Imperial Wizard next door. That's what I'm saying, the day we have utopia is the day we have any person of colour getting a top job without his skin being mentioned. America has probably stole a march on us in this respect but they are still miles away from that day, I'd guess two or three generations!! It may never happen.

You wouldn't able to turn the tables as it would never happen. Him being the first black president is a big thing. It's also a stepping stone towards such things no longer being a big thing, albeit a very small one.

Look, black people have a right to have a chip on there shoulders, Jesus just remember how they ended up in America in the first place? You posted earlier about following Glasgow Rangers because of family ties, can you imagine having the slave trade as a family tie!? Turn that table....

hang on here, i wasnt the only poster to do the blazing saddles reference on here, im not racist and theres people on this board can vouch for that. as for personal abuse the abuse was aimed at me first, i responded. if u want to nail someone to the cross go for it, but theres a few people on here who want to take their heads out their arse and have a look around. if u want to ban me feel free, ive got more important things to deal with in the real world. doyles!! confised

Oh do give over, the slave trade was an awfully long time ago and nobody alive today was involved whether they be black or white. If you want equality then it works both ways, nothing in recent history was more devisive than positive discrimination.

So if roles were reversed we'd be alright with that now!? Everyone uses the race card you are now!! You are missing my point altogether.

The initial argument from the people talking in this thread and not ones using as vessel to call each other names was; why are the media making a big deal of Obama's skin colour? The fact it's taken so long for the West to have a coloured leader suggests it clearly is an issue. An issue among White and Black people it's a two way thing.

I'm agreeing with some of your points but just suggesting reasons why it is an issue.

Either way, we did the equality thing way back when we voted Saint Margaret in as Prime Minister. They're way behind us these septics.

Fair point actually.

We should regain the lead next year and elect Kelly Holmes as Prime Minister.

I suspect this debate could run and run..................

African Americans now have equality.
They are allowed to vote, sit down on buses and even eat in the same restaurants as white folk.
They no longer pick cotton although they might still gorge on fried chicken and water melon. (Copyright Gunny Hartman)
The film 'Mississippi Burning' was made nearly 20 years ago and even then it was ancient history.
A terrorist has been made President of South Africa (and what a great job he did eh)
We even have a black US President

So can we finally get over the slave trade of the 1700's and 1800's pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee.

Woopy doo, a PC Bunker.

The thread was started as a joke. Do some of you even know what a JOKE is anymore? He didn't even type that awful nasty "N" word anyway, you know the one that offends all of the overly pc bods, the one heard on records on the radio every day of the week- nigger.

Nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger. It's all over songs and films but people then get offended by a reference to a film which used the word? What in the name of shitandpiss is this world coming to?

And if any of you have any doubts about the signifiance to black people in America, and other countries, then have a look at the face of Jessie Jackson when the result came through.

And Ripper......get over yourself. The word is offensive, the implication is offensive, the stupidity of what you posted is offensive. It has nothing to do with political correctness.

You've completely missed the point.

People are getting excited because Mr Lemonade quoted a line from a film for a laugh. A very well known and popular film. Even accurately posted so as not to even use the naughty nasty "N" word.

But the pc lefties and moral police got all excited. Either cos they hadn't seen the film or more likely cos they wanted to be seen as cool and into equality and all that when there was no need to get on their high horse in the first place. It's fkin bollox.

I, in fact quoted the line (minus the last bit of the 'N' word) at 7.59 on the morning of the 5th under the At Last thread. Young Lemonade quoted at 8.46. thrilled thrilled thrilled
