Everyone must have gone to Beamish!

Lightwater Valley when The Rat had just opened!

Adventure holiday in France which included a raft full of us nearly drowning when it capsised in rapids!

Germany, where we didn't seem to actually do anything...

Ice skating at Crowtree, which included me coming home with one side of my face black and blue after a spectacular fall on the ice!

The best one though has got to be.... Hartlepool Power Station! I'll always remember at the end of the day the bloke asked if there was any questions and one lad asked "where do the wagons come in that bring the coal?" stpid

Reading that post sent shivers down my spine. I went there with Jesmond Rd School as a ten year old. It was like a prison and we had that same Mr Chapman too. He was a complete and utter bounder. He reminded me of Mr Sugden from 'Kes'

You always had to say grace etc at brekkie and by the end your toast was stone cold. I remember all the kids writing home to their parents on the first evening saying how they could not wait to get home.

The grounds of carlton camp were also meant to be haunted so we were all shit scared of that too, mind you, at that age everywhere has a resident ghost.

The only good thing was the pillow fights on a morning with every 'cell' teaming up.

*shudder*

My first ever school trip was back in the early 90's when I was at Fens, an old fashioned dress up day at Beamish. I took my first school trip as a history teacher last month. To Beamish. Nothing much changes!

Funny how they stick in your mind....
Juniours ... Holy Island and Berwick
Durham Cathedral and the Roman Wall
The Lake Disrict...barred from that
Flamingo Land and Whitby
...and of course Carlditz Camp
Seniors... Fookin Black and Decker factory at Spennymoor.

So..... how come those teachers could organise that, yet my youngest for her school trip was taken to Catcote Road shops for an hour to do a traffic survey...TRUE!...

I can only remember the obvious Beamish trip and Carlton Camp from junior school, we went in the December and it was bastad freezing, there was a school from Borer there at the same time and every night we used to play football against them, that Mr Chapman had well scary eyes.

In senior school I know we went to London for a couple of days and also we went skiing to Austria which was brilliant. We had a fair few day trips but I can only really remember Eden Camp

Did anyone go to Teesmouth Field Centre as it was called then. It was foooking great when the teacher told us the day before to bring a packed lunch because we were going there, cheese sarnies, a bag of tudor crisps, an apple and a yo yo biscuit. It seemed miles away yet was only about 10 minutes down the road from St Teresas.

Great days

I can remember getting on the bus with what seemed like half the school, in Northgate to go from Baltic Street Juniors, to the Gray Art Gallery and Museum, and the Teacher paying the Conductress, something like "one 6 penny and 42 threpenny ones please".

I can't remember any school trips.....which means I never went on any(many) or I didn't go to school at all - and my life has been something like those soldiers in the Manchurian Candidate.......but those years of watching Pools being shite and playing nicky nocky nine doors all seemed so real...............

Hey, what's happened to all the paintings and other wotsits that used to be in Gray's Art Gallery? I wanted to go and see them when I moved back up north but they all seemed to have been shut away.

Anyway, school trips...most of them were spent throwing up on the Ouse in York. Tho we did also go to Carlton Camp, the Roman Wall and, the best, one, London

Yes there was all sorts in the Grays Art Gallery. I'm sure there was a stuffed lioness. They shut it down to become the headquarters of some quango or other. Is the building still there.

On another note does anyone else remember before the new road was put in at Sappers Corner and the school trip coach had to go through Greatham, down the bank and over the hump back bridge. The back seat was favourite place on the coach to experience the resulting mayhem.

The United 227 used to go that way if we were going through to The Odeon at Diddlesbrough when we were kids and Hartlepool didn't have a cinema.

I fkin hated the 227 cos of the route and time it took, it was like a dog pissing at every bastad lamppost. The number 1 corpy bus was way better.

Number 10 every time. Unless you were going to Stockton, the 227 was awful.

On the subject of school trips, at Kingsley I remember going to the following:

Preston Park
Flamingo Land
Whitby
Scarborough
Crowtree
Carlton Camp for a week

At Brierton, trips were usually cancelled due to the bad behaviour of most of the kids in our year.

I'm surprised no has mentioned Dukes House Wood. I went there with Brierton when I was 15 and it was like something off a Ken Loach film. There was fighting, drugs, underage sex, teachers losing their marbles etc. A load of kids got sent home after the first couple of days for various reasons.

And it featured a younger version of Carlton Camp's Mr Chapman as well, an up and coming sadist by the name of Mr Cunnington. Some bright spark noticed that he left his boots outside his cabin when he went in the shower, so by the time he got back he found that his laces had been tied in many, many knots. So many that he had to cut them out with his penknife. rolfl

Newham Grange Leisure Farm. Somewhere near Stockton. Godawful muddy messy place full of stinking animals (especially when we were there).

And we went more than once.

An early treat on the lengthy journey to the construction site at the new theme park, Stonehenge??

We always had a kid called Redmond, who could throw up eight times on a bus before it had reached Oxy Road from Brinkburn Grammar, we also had one called called Hall who wanted a piss every half a mile. There was another called Duncan who wanted to sue Mr Dollin for making him go in the Proddy church near Carlwitzch to see the mouse carvings 'cos he said he was a baptist.

Schoolkids are a fookin' nightmare aren't they??

Incidentally I'm a teacher now.......... clappp rolfl

Bloody 'ell when I left there was The Odeon, The Essoldo, The Gaumont and The Nogs. You can't leave anything for 10mins
