The 'bairns teddies' thread has got me thinking, what would be your nightmare Pools team. Out of all the shite you've watched over the years what would conceivably be the worst eleven you could field. Your objective would be a team incapable of winning a single point. 4-4-2 and a manager here's my go;

GK Jan Budtz

RB Denny Ingram
LB Tony Skedd
CB Gerard Nash
CB Peter Billing

RM Chris Llewellyn (Captain, yes Grave Captain  )
LM Kona Hislop
CM Tony Canham
CM Chris Lynch

CF Paul Beavers
CF Adie Mike

Manager Martin Scott.

He was garbage for Pools. The objective is to not win a point and his pea sized heart would see him hide like the world hide and seek champion in that team.

One of my most disliked Pools players of all time he had absolutely nothing about him, then after scoring a tap in for Wrexham he became a fully paid up member of the Ian Clark school of badge kissing and rarfery.

In fact I'm going to make him captain, he'd be inspirational.

Chris Lynch.

I still remember him bagging a couple of great goals with his left peg. At home to Darlo and Orient I believe.

Wouldn't have Ingram in there, he had a lot of fight in him.

And i'm surprised you haven't included Tim 'what IS a barn door' Sperrevik

Phil Chambers and David Foley were unlucky to miss out but would be a shoe-in for a place on the bench with Roy Tunks.

Scotty edges Wilson as manager, with Busby and McCreery also pushing hard.

It was a toss up between Antwi and Hysen for centre half- I went for Antwi cos I think he played more games!

In fact Hysen and John Gallagher can make up my five on the bench with the 3 above!!

I think we have had far worse left-backs than Tony Skedd.

We've probably had worse players than Denny Ingram but the 'loadsamoney' incident makes him one of the first names on the team sheet for me!! Ability isn't he only stipulation, attitude can also mean someone is shite, like Llewellyn.

Skedd was a trier but he was embarrassingly out of his depth, I can't think of many worse players who've worn a Pools shirt.

It shows how the game is all about opinions! I actually thought Russel Bradley was a decent centre back! At least as good as nelse imo

I agree, Bradley wasn't a bad centre back, his distribution was better then Nelsons, having said that, Douglas Barder could pass a ball better then Nelson

I remember him as being alright most of the game but "gaffe prone", in that you would expect him to put at least one gilt edged chance per match on a plate for the opposition and it would be a case of whether or not he got away with it.

Isn't this thread a bit pointless unless the nominations come from someone who followed the team from the late 60s to the late 80s?

Not really, cos we had some pretty terrible players at pools in the 90's when i started watching.

My first game was in 1988 and I could put together about six squads full of shite!!! More difficult for anyone who started watching in 2000's obviously. At times in the mid nineties we were worse than Bob Moncur's team that developed a habit of losing 6-0!!

Cos Cooper signed him!

Although in all seriousness he would have to be a serious contender.

By all means I love Cooper, but Scott Walker was atrocious when he played at Wycombe.

There have been plenty of duds since the turn of this century to make an 11 I reckon.

Off the top of my head...

Danny Bryne
Scott Walker
That walker from charlton scotty signed
Lewis Gobern (Techinically he is still on loan at pools, played one game, then was never heard of again, no confirmation that he had left or anything)
Ryan McCann

Gibb was as anonymous as tony fooking canham.

In all seriousness Tony Canham is the most pointless player who I ever saw play for pools. He did NOTHING yet he played pretty much every game from what I remember. I seem to recall the York fans rated him sctatchinghead stpid

Canham was a reasonable lower league player for the majority of his career.

It's just that by the time he came to Pools he was well into his thirties and past it- Houchen only signed him cos they were mates from York and he wanted to give him a job when everybody else in football knew that he was finished.

Paul Butler was sh-ite for us after being good for Hereford for a number of years. I work with a lad who was his mate when they grew up in Stockton, and I told him to tell Butler he was taking the p-iss at Pools. I don't think he did, like.
The twat tortured us regularly down there - 4-0's and 4-1's and he was putting in man of the match performances, only to never, that's never, have a single good game for us.

He was dead fast and hit the bar from about 30 yards once.

But er, that's about it!

He was another contender for me, but Canham couldn't be overlooked.
