what position would you want it to for?

a) Right back
b) centre back to replace Nelson
c) centre back to replace Collins
d) left back
e) goalie
f) a midfielder or striker as I don't think we cause defences enough problems

for me it would be left back.

I'd play Sweeney, Clark, Collins and new signing.

I think Collins will see a return of form and would do well with Clarky back there. Nelson has been sh*t for a long time now and we need to accept he isn't the defender he was when he first signed.

I think a major issue with our defence is confidence. It's no coincidence they've been poor since we lost the services of a commanding, competent goalkeeper. For 14 months now we've conceded a high number of goals which are in goalkeeping terms soft, every goal conceded dents the confidence further. I think if we could get a decent keeper, or an experienced keeper who talked to the back four we'd see a marked improvement a couple of good games could make all the difference to Nelson and Collins. I'm sorry to say ALB is not good enough to be playing league football, he just isn't agile enough and is slow on his feet.

I'd also say we need a right back before a left back, Sweeney is wasted as a full back and McCunnie is a liability. Humphreys will do a job but I'd put left back as the third priority. If we can successfully strengthen or just improve these areas we can be a top six side.

So, in a nutshell we're fucked in all areas of the defence!

But surely it's been blindingly obvious to everybody for weeks that our back four aren't up to the job?

Keeper would be the 1st one I would want and 2 full backs soon after.

If only one it would have to be a Centre back , Nelson is pants , but a goalie and a big targetman would be nice also.

he types with his tongue as his hands are usually full of scran
can;t see us signing another keeper when we have three
dimi was told they are sticking with what we have
so a big sweeper come centre half come winger will do

In this order: E, D, C, B, A, F.

If I win the Euro Millions I'll buy everyone but F.

Its quite obvious that a decent keeper would see the defence pick up. Collins and Nelson are not bad players, but they are with that clown behind them.

Im glad to see you all finally cottoned on that ALB is a bag of wank.

I used to get berated for daring to say he was awful.

We have conceded 21 this season in the league. Without exagerating I reckon that would be at most 12 with a competent keeper in.

We definitely need two decent full backs, particularly on the left but all good defences are underpinned by a strong goalkeeper. If Dimi is indeed available Danny Wilson should be knocking his door down to sign him. I doubt that is going to happen because Wilson tends to stick rigidly to his beliefs and he has publically said that he is happy with ALB and Budtz.

So for me the priorities are left back then goalie.

how odd when you check the log

"if he is leaving us to sit on the bench at coventry then fook him, he isnt worth thinking about. i would have looked good in goal behind nelson and clark,
penalties aside list the brilliant saves he made last season
err rochdale in the cup ,,,,,thats it
grossley over-rated refred refred refred "

it is not going to happen if you believe what is coming from the club and dimi
two years down the line is a long time
but he would have to take a pay cut anyway would he not?

KEEPER!!!! 100%!!!!
I've just watched the goals from PoolsWorld and Barrett is fu-cking WORSE than Budtz - those free kicks were like having a nanna in goal. Embarrassing, he doesn't even look like he can save anything - watch his body shape, and for the third goal even though the kick has already been struck and is going to his left - inexplicably he shuffles over to his right before attempting to re-adjust his position - giving himself no chance to save it whatsoever. Free kicks should be something special to beat a keeper from there - IMO the first was a run of the mill lower league standard free kick which would have been bread and butter to most keepers - the third goal was an average free kick at best.
New keeper please Pools ASAP.

I would also put a keeper as my priority but I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson has been told to get rid of one before he can get another one in. Unfortunately there doesn't seem much interest in Budtz so we are stuck with what we have.

On the centre halves I don't think we have ever replaced Chris Westwood. Collins and Nelson are very similar - both decent in the air but when they get turned they take a long time to recover their position - usually too late. Someone like Westwood is quick over the first few yards and can cover for players like Nelson and Collins - we need an effective blend in central defence.

We also need two full backs - Sweeney does ok as a wing back type but gets exposed when he ventures forward. Humphreys has adapted well to left back over the years but is not getting any younger. In short, we have a lot of work to do in our defensive dept

Westwood always made Nelson look better than he probably is - he always tracked back and made umpteen last ditch tackles when Nelse missed a header - but overall it has to be said that Westwood also brought the best out of Nelson.
Nelson also did well alongside Ben Clark, who more or less did the Westwood role but also put his own stamp of class on proceedings.

For Nelson & Collins read Nelson & Collins (the other one) They are similar types of players and don't compliment each other. Put Clark alongside either one and the defence would improve markedly. The full backs are still a major problem though.

I agree with most on here - a goalkeeper has to be top priority. I've been saying this since seeing both ALB & Budtz in action (or should that be non-action) last season. I thought we should have gone after Lee Camp from QPR who is now on loan at Nottingham Forest - possibly too expensive and wanting to play at a higher level. Dimi would still be a good and popular choice and Murray of Wolves another possibility.

I can agree with that - Barrett is every bit as bad as Budtz, we were trailing on Tuesday thanks to him IMO.
