In the many threads below about the relative merits of Kyle/Barker etc. there is repeated many times the assertion that Porter/Brown is our best starting line-up and that the two players are beyond reproach.

I had felt that too. But then looking at MadJohn's site a statistic becomes apparent:

Before Saturday James Brown had scored ONCE in his previous 12 appearances.

I take no joy in that fact - when he is on fire he looks like Boydy at his best. But is that an adequate return for a striker who is one of the first names on the team sheet? He may play like Boyd but his current goals return is more like Borthwick.

Maybe the assumption that our best eleven has to have Brown/Porter up front needs a bit more examination. I hope Brown soon turns the beautiful skills into more goals - because another Stephen Halliday is not much use to us.

For 5 of those 12 games he's started the game in midfield which explains him not scoring really, his return starting games up front is 4 from 8, a 1 in 2 ratio which if repeated throughout the season would make him one of the top scorers in the division. He's moved up front for the last 15 minutes on Saturday and he gets the winner. He's also missed some great chances and had plenty of near misses in those games he hasn't scored, namely the great chance against Oldham and wonderful save by the keeper against Swindon and a close shave at Leicester. I don't think we have too much to worry about with Browny, and to even mention him and Stephen Halliday in the same post is stpid to me.

Brownie is a good team player. Halliday would eventually lose it because he had no awareness of where his team mates where, and once he put his head down and ran with it he ended up running into trouble with it.He was also a terrible finisher. Brown sets up plenty of opportunities for his team mates as well as having a finisher's instinct.A lot of his goals last season were just pure ability shining through.

Keep playing him right wing and he'll probs get about 12ish goals this season, play him up top and the skys the limit.

He's not a natural midfielder or winger he's a forward.

It's funny how Wilson was saying how he's going to be a class forward this season during the summer then sticks him on the wing for 5 or 6 games.

Hallidays 'double de-clutch' was the only real trick in his 'locker', Brown is a million miles away from Halliday in terms of skill

It's funny though at the time i thought Halliday was the muts nuts, I bet looking back now he was very poor.

Brown has to cope with much more attention from Defenders due to his amazing start to the season. it will take him time to adjust, but once he does he will be lethal
