Athletico Madrid have been forced to play Champions League games 300 km from their home ground as punishment for racist acts by their fans. Who do they play next week - Liverpool.

Now they are quite right to be unhappy that they have to change travel plans a week away from the game - but the number of comments that UEFA are being stupid in the punishment as it puts away fans out, and that they should have made an exception for them, so they can get to watch it.

You fight racism now, not in a weeks time. Blame Athletico for your troubles, not UEFA.

That punishes the club, so I'd imagine UEFA are trying to punish the fans - maybe playing behind closed doors?

What grates was just the attidue that came across as fighting racism should be an after-thought.

Why is racist chanting such a surprise?
Despite all their denials, most people I know are racist by default. Some of them manage to stem it but you can see it's an effort.

When you're an immigrant and you face racism, as defined in Western terms, not international ones, has anyone got any idea of what it feels like??

I invite you to comment, really not as an inflammatory thing, but really to identify the problem, should there be one.

Goo on, what would you do faced with someone commenting on your racial origins?? :uhoh:

Much like me, much like 99.99% of people. The only time you pull the racist card is if you're in trouble.

Play like a donkey, 'well I was getting racist abuse....' Funny that, John Terry was playing like a blind man (can I say blind man??) and he wasn't getting racial abuse.....

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, happens to me on a daily basis, but the key question is, do I give a bugger?? No, I can always pull the corners of my eyes.....

Reading between the lines, the real reason UEFA are moving the fixture is to stop the Scousers getting a good kicking off the local police like the Marseille fans did.

pity

Interesting question. It depends on all sorts of things and on who's doing the calling.
The only personal experience I've had is when I used to have an Irish friend in London who was always going on about the English, and my reaction was to feel quite hurt, because obviously she knew I was English myself (up to a point!).

But the other thing is, people insult and discriminate against other people for all sorts of reasons which aren't thought of as unethical or illegal. I don't myself think that it's any worse to be insulted on race grounds than on any other. It's just that you have to keep an eye on racism because it's likely to escalate in alarming ways, not that it's any worse than other sorts of bullying.
But there you go. People don't seem able to help picking on other people
