Of mine and every tax payers money to bail out the banks. Not only that but the government will guarentee any money banks lend to one another.

£50 billion, would that not build Hospitals, employ nurses, treat cancer, seems this government can find money for un-necessary wars and to fund poor business decisions.

Which is all lending money is a risk business

It ironic to everyone that has ever had a loan turned down by the banks, now that they are borrowing off us we don't get a choice in the decision.

It would be more like a grand each. Depending on who got a share, the total population of the UK is around 60 million.

Are we talking UK billions or US billions though?

50 billion is 50,000 million is it not? So if say 50 million each got a share that would be 1,000 each.

A UK billion is a million million, whereas a US billion is a thousand million cos they is a bit thick and sensationalistic like.

They work to the international standards. 1000'000'000 = 1 billion.

So we'd get a £1000 pound each then?
All this happens whilst the top people in banking get ridiculously inflated wages, now secured by us, the tax payers. So that they can continue in their lavish lifestyles of big houses, classic cars, art and Man Utd season tickets. We don't have a say in this and all the major political parties agree on it, so peoples dissenting voices cannot even be heard through the ballot box.
To paraphrase REM "It's the end of capitalism as we know it (and I feel fine)".

Maths ain't a strong point on the board today.

60 Billion - 6'000'000'000
Adult population 48'000'000

one divided by the other = £1250 each.

sctatchinghead

So if one billion = one thousand million (as per yankee speak) then that = 1,000,000,000

Yes?

So six billion = 6,000,000,000

Yes? Am I still on the right lines with the maths?

If so, then sixty billion would surely be 60,000,000,000

So even though you got to the right answer you will lose marks for the working out and also raise suspicions of cheating.

As Ripper pointed out, if Mr I had the correct number of zeroes on his working out it would be correct.

When did the 50 billion go up to 60 billion by the way?

I missed a zero on the post, not the calculation. Even so the £1250 is right. A lot of money to hand over - each!

Interesting that the government can find the money to bail out their banking pals but cannot find the money for the masses to receive good, consistant, reliable healthcare, education and welfare services.

All of this just exposes the lie that is democracy. We elect people who pay themselves vast amounts and who do what they like without consulting the people of the country. There is no credible opposition as the 2 main parties tend to agree on most major decisions amongst themselves and they wonder why there is voter apathy. rage

Perhaps it's gots something to do with the fact that the financial services sector provides the UK Government with 26% of its total corporation tax and 12.5% of its PAYE income tax income.

One suspects that your education, healthcare and welfare services might take a turn for the worse should that source of funding dry up.

Not for much longer and it will be education, healthcare and welfare services that will suffer as a result of the government creating such a heavy reliance upon the financial services without understanding / caring about sustainability.
