Mike Ashley has pumped £250m of his fortune into Newcastle

The Nigerian consortium interested in taking over crisis-torn Newcastle has talked up its plans to buy the club.

Wonder if the money is in a frozen account somewhere and they just need a grand or two to release it. Sounds like a case for the church of the painted breast.

I marvel at the arrogance of the Newcastle supporters, as though they have some divine right to expect, nay demand, some fool with money rush to the club and bankroll their hobby. Wouldn't it be hilarious of no one did.

Surely with their massive support and resulting revenues, bankrolling is beneath them.

all though hugely amusing to every fan bar their own fans, i personally think its a disgrace whats going on up there and just shows how the premiership has ruined our game.

the way a club like newcaslte with over a 100 years of history,a club which has had some of the greatest players ever to grace the game play for them, a city know through out the world for its massive passion of the club, for a club with all this be touted round the world, to buisnessmen round the world like a russian hooker is an absolute disgrace. its just proves mike ashley was not a "fan" and he did not give a shit about them and was just looking to boost his ego.

Complete cack, Newcastle United aren't well known around the world and as for having 'some of the greatest players to ever grace the game play for them' is a load of old bollox as well, granted Beardsley, Gazza and Waddle were good players, but were flogged on as soon as possible

Their fans are whiners and are full of self pity who believe the football world owes them a favour, they have won one FA cup in the past fifty years, hardly pulling up trees are they?

Mike Ashley has kept the club alive for nearly two years and they think HE is the problem?? stpid stpid stpid sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Most of Newcastles so called staus is based purely on hype and media attention... for the past few years they have achieved zilch, nothing and sold a vision of greatness that has never come to fruition. Their only achievement is commercially, clothing a sizeable part of the North East and most of the widescreen club supporters in Hartlepool in appalling black and white shirts, but that hardly constitutes success. As for blaming the Premiership that's just cack... all those 'starlet clubs' wanted to be part of the money well that is the Premiership and where quite happy to act like slappers on the pull to be part of it...they all sold their dignity in the grubby pursuit of fame and fortune and any respect for them that there was, was lost a long time ago. They are now reaping the harvest of acting like despeate old knockers and virtually begging anyone to come along and keep them in the manner to which they are accustomed ... as self deluded contenders without a hope in hell.

We repeatedly turn down offers of investment into China from Nigeria because entire swathes of that continent are run by corrupt and self serving Governments who'll sign in blood and then nick the lot and run.

We've had an offer totalling $50bn dollars for Nigerian cement into China, which uses 33% of the worlds cement at the moment and no one will touch it.

I sincerely hope they sign up. If so you will all get your wishes and we won't have to buy the Vic we can dismantle and rebuild Sid James's Park in Clavering which needs levelling anyway.

If you told the demented Geordie fundamentalists that no offers were forthcoming, but were looking at investment from outer space.... they'd believe it too
I'm still amazed that all these top clubs casually expect and believe that passing millionaires have a duty to hose them down with money ... my only fear is the triumph of the top flight over everything else, hoovering up money from the lower leagues and reducing it to Premiership and Championship only .. a sort of frantic soap opera that the thick public would buy into.

I think it's a brilliant situation meself. The more sugar megadaddies the better. There are only so many quality players to go round who meet the expected standards, so if there were umpteen bulti-zillionaires, one for each club, the only thing they would achieve would be to hike the price of a Berbatov or Robinho up to 150m instead of 30m, an unsustainable, non-solvent situation which would with any chance lead to self-destruction and the eclipse of all these titano-colossiantesque clubs when the superior beings get tired of throwing their mazoomas at something that never shows any benefit, neither financially nor in terms of prestige.

Bring 'em on. clappp

to be fair, how many clubs would get 44,000 for a home game against blackburn, when they were propping up the league, hadnt won a domestic trophy for 50 years, and had no immediate prospects of winning one ?

i actually have a degree of sympathy for genuine newcastle fans who didnt vote for the premiership, didnt vote for sky changing their kick off times at a weeks notice, and are stuck with dennis wise and ashley.

regardless of how you feel about the football club itself at the end of the day genuine football fans are getting shafted.

and by genuine football fans i mean the ones who stuck by the club when they got relegated
not the ones who live in hartlepool and support them via sky sports.

Whoa, the genuine fans were priced out years ago... as for the 44,000, what were the gates pre Keegan and the dawn of the relentless age of hype ..... there's an eye opener? The advent of the Premiership has attracted a new strain of fan, their season ticket is a status symbol to a good percentage of them, a new money medal that shows they've arrived.
As for them getting 'shafted' .... they've been swaggering about for years intoxicated with their own crowing expectation that their time is about to come..it never does though, but their posturing and self delusion has probably kept them going for far longer than they deserved to. SYMPATHY  ... you can't be serious.

Good post that.

I know a lad from County Durham who was a Newcastle season ticket holder for years, but got pi55ed off with the prem almost as soon as it started.
He was so disillusioned that he made the decision to change which club he followed.
You'll never guess who he chose to support though...... Darlo.

at the end of the day they were born into supporting their local team in exactly the same way as you or i. its not as if they looked at the league table when they were 13 and chose to support a team 150 miles away like a lot of man utd fans.

You can't blame people for having that preconceived idea though. During last night's Arsenal knack Porto game (I have a soft spot for Porto, right?), the commentator said that because of Arsene Wenger's honest comments in the programme, "the crowd know exactly what they're buying into when they support Arsenal."

As if the punters looked through reviews like on Amazon.com before choosing who to support for the season.

for starters the cheapest season ticket at st. james park is CHEAPER than it is for the millhouse seats, so i dont for a minute buy this crap about the ordinary man being priced out.

indeed a recent survey showed toon fans to be on average, the second lowest weekly wage earners in the prem behind the mackems. i was in newcastle city centre at 2.45 on saturday and the majority of folk i saw going to the game were all what i would consider working class in appearance.

when i worked for albany there was 2 guys i worked with davy mac who was about 40, and an older bloke called tom. both were from newcastle and both been going as season ticket holders to newcastle since they were kids.

you couldnt ask for 2 more committed footie fans. hated souness, hated shepherd, but it never stopped them going to games. they also hated sky and big money tossers like kieron dyer and lee bowyer.

at the end of the day they were born into supporting their local team in exactly the same way as you or i. its not as if they looked at the league table when they were 13 and chose to support a team 150 miles away like a lot of man utd fans.

when i used to play in the newcastle midweek league i met loads of normal geordie fans who had none of this arrogance you allude to. a lot of them were genuinely interested in how pools were doing as well.

at the end of the day having the football club you love run by wankers is no fun as anyone who supported pools under gibson will know only too well.

Chip, please read what I said ... that...'The Premiership has attracted a new starin of fan......' and I can assure you I know plenty of them. Of course there'll be some genuine fans pre this era, but the Premiership has spawned an arrogance amongst a good percentage of these supporters that was never there previously... they've lost the ability to laugh at themselves, a sure sign they take theimselves too seriously.

I remember watching a league game at Sid James when Ossie Ardiles was manager against Port Vale (Pools had been called off if I remember rightly) the crowd? 11,000. I think the average gate that season (the one before Keegan joined) was less than 17,000.

This whole episode has been very interesting as it's really shown the Newcastle fans in a bad, bad light. When you hear things like "Ashley's only in it for the money like" on the news you feel like jumping through the telly and getting hold of the daft damned bounder (who has nothing more productive to do with his day than stand outside a football ground, what are they expecting to see!?) to say "hang on can I stop you for a second. This is a bloke who has put A QUARTER OF A BILLION pounds of HIS money into YOUR club and he is only in it for the money" rolfl rolfl rolfl He has paid off the clubs crippling debts, they were in financial difficulty before he came in. As for those 'Cockney Mafia' banners  I'll agree on one thing; Dennis Wise is indisputably a 'lovely lovely person'.

So I feel for the 11,000 who were at that Port Vale game, they are real football fans who support the club regardless of what position or what league they are in (the same as us) the rest deserve the ridicule they are getting.
