We deserved to win as we passed it about much better than them. A cross was turned in by a Leeds player (Huntington I believe) to put us 1 up. Then Johnsen scored from a long shot that went into the bottom right hand corner. Then a 30 yard screamer from Foley put us in front. Enoch whatever his name in almost scored from a header but Cook pulled off a brilliant save.

Their reserves consisted mostly of senior pros, ours consisted of a couple of pros and mostly young lads.

The stand out players for me were:

Cook who looks a decent keeper and would be my second choice. He didn't have me closing my eyes like I used to do when another keeper played for us last year.

Rowell who seems to have that something extra, that extra touch of class. I can't put my finger on it but he has it.

The future is bright.

But for me the man of the match was.....David Foley. I know he struggles to produce it for the first team but he was the best player on the pitch and his goal was superb. I hope he finds a way to score goals like that for the first team. A couple of Leeds fans who I sat near said he was brilliant and one described him as the next "Theo Walcott" and said they would love it if Leeds signed him (no I'm not winding you up). Again, I hope he learns how to translate his peformances for the reserves into decent peformances for the first team.

And here's a couple of blurry rubbish pictures for you all.

Were our full backs any good?

Robson was at left back and Tait (I think) was at right back. Leeds didnt really trouble us much defensivley until towards the end after we got our second. Robson put some good croses in. They were solid but not spectacular, which is good enough for me. But Tait is usually a centre back so it's hard to say whether he can made the step up into the first team as a full back.

They only conceded on goal against roughly the same team as the first team did last week. Robson is not a great left back but he's the best option the club has available unless Liddle is played there.

Foley has no confidence whatsoever when there is more than a 100 people in the crowd and last night proves that, he would never dream of shooting from 30 yards out at the Vic because people would scream their heads off at him if it didn't rip the net to bits. When I went to see the reserves a few weeks ago you notice a different style in his place as he has a bit of arrogance about him which gives him the confidence to beat players. I think there is a good player in there but I don't think we'll ever see it. It would certainly suggest why Wilson is persisting with him.

Playing Matty Robson at left back would be suicidal.

I wouldn't mind seeing a back 4 of Clark Nelson Collins Liddle until we buy a couple of decent full backs. If we stop conceding goals we are going to do well this season and I think that is our strongest defence on paper.

Agreed 100%. Liddle is not bossing the games as a midfielder anymore. We seem to have coached that attribute out of him and he is much more defensively minded these days. It would make perfect sense to move him to left back. He coped there previously. On paper, that would be a strong defense although again the lack of pace could be a problem. We desperately need some pace in the team, every side we come up against is faster to the ball than us

The only thing I don't like about it is that I have criticised Wilson previously for playing players out of their preferred position but sadly the current squad leaves us with no other option as we don't have a proper full back at the club.

They've both played in those positions before and done well and I'm confident they'd do better than the current two.

So did Foley have a good game up front or in midfield?

And if it was up front why the Jesussufferingfuck does DW keep putting him on in midfield for the first team?

I think Foley is following the same path to what Easter did, sharp shooter in the ressies, put him in the first team, crowd on his back, and he loses it.

if he's a man, he will block that out and do the business. If he's a boy, he'll let it get to him. That's the nature of pro football - it's an unforgiving environment and if he wants to be in it, then he has to do the business I'm afraid!!!!
