Apparently as well as slagging of the female assistant referee (almost put lines'man'), he had a go at the Chairman
He may well be on his way !

I know I'm probably the only person in Hartlepool to think this it but I thought Mike Newell was a decent bloke, I met him about 4 or 5 times and always found him to have decent craic and banter. A few people I know had 'disagreements' with him and he wan't very popular with a lot of people but I've always thought he was ok.....

Decent bloke my arse. With the greatest of respect Jonny, he was FAR from that. Oh yes, he put on a good front (certain HUDSA members think he's Jesus Christ reincarnated....) but I can assure you he's a grade one James Blunt.

I'm not blinkered enough to thnk he was a magnificent person as he became unpopular and unwelcome in certain parts of the town and it doesn't happen for no reason, all I'm saying is that he seemed ok to me.......

Looking back to his time at Pools, he did take over a very successful team and proceeded to lose a huge lead at the top of the league. He was intensely disliked and there were very few detractors when he went. Afterwards he commented on cliques and an interfering chairman which seems to have a ring of truth in it. Other managers since have made similar comments.

He was alleged to have been a little bit too regular in some establishments and further alleged to have been barred from several after a fracas with a fan and a child as I recall. When this was mentioned a load of legal letters were sent to various parties with genuine threats of legal action. The fact is that whether you are right or not, if you are faced with a libel action you need to be prepared to lose your house to defend it so the easiest course of action unless you are a very wealthy person is to apologise through gritted teeth even if you are in the right.

I think that the heavy handed approach that was taken was the reason for his unpopularity round these parts rather than his managerial performance.

You can only take people as you find them and I'm sure Mr Newell has as many friends as he does enemies and wouldn't blame anyone who liked him based on meeting him at face value.

I met him once just after he'd taken the realm at Luton and he was an absolute moron and if he was ignited in flames I'd have serious consideration over whether to urinate in his direction or into the nearest lavatory. :sweet:

Not sure, cue Mad John.

The whole Newell business had been tainted by the after effects. In pure managerial terms his is clearly a very decent manager, Luton were no great shakes when he took them over and they tore us to bits at our best.

Isnt there a real denial of the facts with Mike Newell?

Yes Newell lost a big lead...............but I am pretty sure he was the manager that built the lead in the first place.

January Manager of the month anyone?

Or am I wrong?..........for a change.

We were in the lead but it wasn't the full 14 points that we were at some point.

I'm going for 8.....

I reckon the lead was more like 4 points when he took over but I might be wrong.
