Talksport this morning talking about out best ever result, got me thinking what ours would be. Not the best ever game, just result, I guess for me it may be the 1st leg against Tranmere in the play-off semi, allowed us to be battered and still get through........any others?

Two for me.

7-1 against Swansea, it converted a lifelong Man City fan I brought with me to a fervent Poolie and 8-1 against Grimsby when I had a yank in tow.

'Doesn't it get boring when it's so one sided??' she innnocently asked.

Walsall away 1990/91 season when Joe head the ball ( not over the line ) in and the ref give it. Everything stopped for about ten seconds and the ref pointed to the kick off,,,pure joy.It was pissing down, but a BIG result for the promotion push.

Also Stockport away on the easter Friday night game ..Kev Poole first game in goal for us and Stockport never beat at home all season. We won 3 - 1 and never lost a game the rest of the season

The 2-1 win at Darlo when Michael Brown and Joe Allon scored... the look on the faces of the Loids in the Tin Shed was priceless...... a toxic mixture of utter disbelief and lost for words fury.

Either the 8-1 against Grimsby or the 1-0 against Palace which means we will always be the first team to knock a premier side out of the FA cup.

The Palace game was a cracker, two other games that I thought worthy of a mention must be the Aston Ville game at home and Blackburn away.

Swansea Town (yes town) 0 - 2 Hartlepools United (Cummings, Hepplewhite)

Sad to say both scorers are now deceased.

For me 4-0 against Hull when we were bottom in November which gave us the momentum to make the play-offs.

Special mention to 3-0 against Hull two seasons before that which confirmed us making the play-offs against all the odds, which marked a new era at Pools.

And another special mention goes to 8-1 against Grimsby. They'd just been relegated from the Championship and I went on their message boards and they were all predicting to hammer us. I think that showed that we weren't there to just make up the numbers like Chris Kamara and Barry Fry were making out before the season started.

Tranmere for me as well but not the 2-0 at home, the 2-2 away. The most nail biting game I've ever witnessed.

Away to Shrewsbury in 98/99. Bottom of the league. Seven games to go. No wins in the last eight games. Everyone other than Scarborough pulling away. Morale at an all time low.

We set off expecting to get beaten easily. Shrews were the better side most of the way through. In the last few minutes, with the score at 0-0, we get a penalty -which is saved. A thirty-seven year old forward, in pain with a knackered back, somehow found ten years younger legs and got to the ball first to squeeze home a brilliant finish from a very narrow angle. Pools win 1-0. He's a bloody hero that Paul Baker.

I believe that this was the win that saved Pools' league status and consequently was more important than any other result.

It's easily the most I've ever gone mental when a Pools goal has gone in, I was doing laps around the terrace!! Why on Earth did we let Denny fooking Ingram anywhere near such a vital spot kick by the way? You could see from his kipper that he was going to miss it he was shiting himself!!

the elation of getting awarded the spot kick after Strodder's header was punched over the bar by the right back, then the right back getting sent off - followed by the despair of missing the spot kick which could have potentially saved our necks in the League - followed by the immediate elation of Baker stroking the ball into the bottom corner!!! He still had a lot to do though, the keeper had sprang straight back to his feet and had covered his left hand post Scmeichel style by the time Baker reacted to the rebound. A lesser forward would have blasted the ball straight back at the point where the keeper was stood, but Baker had the composure and presence of mind to place it back across him and right into the opposite corner!!! Class!!!
The celebrations on the fence were unreal!!!I swear Baker was in the crowd at one point!!

another point though - Ingram scored six penners that season - we lost every game, including that infamous 2-1 reverse at Exeter, where they scored after 93 and 96 minutes. In a way, it was fate that it should happen like that!!! If the penner had gone in, what's the odds they would have scored?

Yep, the Shrewsbury night was superb. I think 90% of the Pools away end have responded to this thread as there weren't many there.

It was Strodder's shot that got us the penalty wasn't it?

I was convinced we were going down that season but that night changed things

I think it was a flying header from Strodder saved in the line by a defender!!

Best result for me was the 3-1 win over Northampton in 91 to win promotion.

If we hadn't gone up that year, who knows what would have happened with Garry Gorrilla? At least we had a couple of seasons to avoid the fall from grace which would probably have been the Conference.
