Went in WH Smiths today and bought a Mail and a couple of magazines, they came to just over seven quid. I paid and then was given my receipt..... and the magazines and paper were left on the counter, I asked if they could be put in a bag and my attention was drawn to a sign on the counter telling me bags were no longer given out. I told the assistant I didn't care what the sign said and said either give me a bag or a refund. I GOT THE BAG.
How much more of this token green credential flahing are we supposed to endure.... companies say they aren't giving bags out to save the planet, what they don't mention is that they pocket a tidy wedge by not having to supply them to their customers. Are we supposed to walk about with a couple of carriers jammed in our pockets in case we decide to buy something....?

I've always approached this from the opposite direction. In book shops or record shops the staff always tended to start putting your stuff in a carrier bag as they rang them through the till. I used to ask them to leave the bag if there were only two or three items. Got sick of plastic bags cluttering up the house confised
Nowt wrong with that, but when company's start it under the saving the world banner it gets your back up, especially when they save a tidy amount.

I use the bags to collect dog shite in.
