Why don't you and Mrs Frodraff pop up for the festival, then?
Chip used to play in a band in London....he says you can find them on Myspace but due to my dodgy IT skills I've only ever found one clip and it stopped playing after about 8 seconds

made their name on the back of a few coldplay supports in their[coldplays] early days.

dont like the white negroes either.

my first band played with em at a cornercopia thing in the cornerhouse aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago and I thought they were good then, but since I just think they've gone cack diddly confised

were 1941 from hartlepool?
I think andy jones is stockton - but thought the rest were from hartlepool. i liked them, but again dont like andy jones solo stuff or sal paradise...

ive lived in london for the majority of my adult life, so when i moved back here i was pretty much unaware of any culural changes that had taken place in the town between 1984 and 2002.

during this period i believe said band were formed and achieved a level of some local notoriety.

their reputation, sadly, did not extend as far as the capital, so i was utterly unaware of them until fairly recently, when i was party to a heated debate about their relative merits.

18 years is a long time to be away, so if anything else of cultural signifigance happened during this time feel free to bring me up to speed.

p.s. i know who the passion killers are and idiot savant, but have seen neither live.

GEC has closed and the Odeon has been knocked down

Sorry But there is no chance of Arctic Monkeys playing a secret set.
Bands that big do not organise shows by talking to people backstage at a show.
It is all through agents and management and scheduling.
Also, Arctic Monkeys earn what? £50k per show? Probably a hell of a lot more for festivals.
Pigpen just does not have that money.
Would be great if it happened but it is not going to

If I remember the article about the Yorkshire one, the festival was organised as part of a charity event by a good friend of the band.
That would be why.
They ARE NOT going to play in Hartlepool/Elwick.
The link on the side of the article says about Eavis of Glastonbury going to the festival... but when you read the article he has actually declined the offer banghead banghead once again the mail using misleading headlines

Im willing to bet on it being a fair while ago.
I went to their secret gig in Boro a few years back and remembering the queues for tickets i just cant grasp any concept of them playing in hartlepool/elwick... it would result in overcrowding etc
I may be wrong, but in my opinion, this sis a very clever marketing ploy by the organisers of pig pen.

But do they not fence off an area for watching bands?
And only selling 1500 tickets for a secret arctic monkeys gig is just unviable.
If it was true there would be kids without tickets attempting to force their way in therefore descending into chaos and bother for people who have got tickets

Aye... about 4 year ago on there very first tour.
As for them earning £50k a show... that is a HUGE overstatement.

Maybe not earning but being paid that much in whatever way it gets split.
If bands such as The Courteeners can quote £15k for a set then bands such as the Arctic Monkeys must be charging considerably more. That was the way I worked it.
But still whatever their fee, for me it would still be beyond pigpen... nothing against pig pen but it is still a young festival on a low budget.

The Arctic Monkeys have played at least one other smaller venue in I think it was Putney. Did they have to change the bass player at some point? Anyway they wanted to do a live performance before a tour and our Paul got to support them with Hot Club who incidentally got a gig at the Leeds festival and played on the Transgression stage to 3000.

So it might not be the total blocks it seems to be but I bet it is. And that Pink Floyd, so bloody dreary.

Proud Dad ey!

And thanks for the invite Miss Graby which I didn't read until recently cos I couldn't get logged on cos I didn't RFI (thanks PoN) but we're just about to demolish the house and put it back together and couldn't have got away anyway

I thought it was the management behind British Sea Power who'd organised the Tan Hill Festival? I had a ticket for it as well, used to follow BSP around the country religiously a few years back, but it was too much of a trek. Not a bad coup getting the Arctic Monkeys to play.

Yes it's Hot Club De Paris and I always get a rosy glow when someone says they like them. Whenever they're anyhere near we go to see them and always think they're great but being involved you never know how biased you're being.
