mr ripper at 3 million i would drive him up there myself.

all it takes is another knee injury and that 3 million would turn into 300,000.

IF we got that amount of money we would have a serious chance at buying enough quality to go for promotion.

so for arguments sake its either keep brown and stay in league 1 or sell him and play with the big boys.

no ADG that doesnt mean you!

Of course the head says that there would be no option but to sell at a price like that.

The heart, however, says I'd love to see him play a full season at centre forward in the third division and see the carnage he left in his wake.

The Brown money would be used to balance the books, as did the miller money, boydy money, butler money etc etc

And if we did sell now, we would then have like 4 days to identify targets, and how many clubs would also want to sell there top striker at this stage.

And how many clubs, knowing hartlepool with 3million in the bank, would up the price for any player we bid for?

I'd say all of them

oh i agree. i love watching him play. he is sublime at times. his first touch is of a quality you can only find in the top leagues around the world.

if he does go then i would put a clause in his contract that we want another million if he plays for england. he has the potential to be that good

I agree that the figure quoted may be a little high.

But do you think that Browny is better or worse than the kid who Crewe sold to Bristol City this summer?

That's just in the best interests of both parties though. If James Brown is happy with the way he's been treated at Pools, it makes sense for him to secure a longer term contract. If the worst happens and he gets a serious injury, he's sorted for wages for a while, for Pools we can ask a premium in anybody is interested as there's no threat of him leaving and us having to wait for a tribunal to value him, not doubt at a fee a fair bit lower than what we would have wanted.

He was definitely there, I saw him signing autographs near the steps up to the boxes and in his seat.

It could have been that Strachan was there to watch West Brom's Paul Robinson last night, who has been linked with Celtic in recent weeks.

The press have a habit of reporting wrong information regarding Strachan and the games he attends, as they witnessed him at the Man City - West Ham cup game back in January, and reported that he was after Mark Noble. As it was, he was looking at Samaras, though that night he, like Paul Robinson last night, did not feature.

Also, the source for this story is the Daily Record, which has to be one of the worst papers in history for innaccurate reporting, so anything that they report should be taken with a pinch of salt.

And as for the chap who said that Brown is too good for Celtic and Scottish Football, would you also think that Brown is too good for the Champions League?

No, thought not.

What have Celtic and the Champions League got to do with each other? Yes Celtic qualify but then Hartlepool qualify for the FA Cup and neither club stay in it for long or have a realistic chance of winning their respective competitions. Now don't you go giving me that scotch tosh about Celtic winning the European cup just after the war, it was a different competition.

I'm not saying that Celtic do have a chance of winning it. But the fact is, the world's best players perform at this level, so my point is that for a player such as Brown to have the chance to perform at that level, against some of the world's best players, well its hardly going to be beneath him.

As the "Champions" League is a bloated, status-quo-maintaining sack of cack, then I would say yes: JB is better than that in every way.

Ah, the 'there is nothing beyond League One and everything else is overrated' mentality.

On a serious point, personally I think JB can do better than the SPL even if it is Celtic.

If he wants to go to the top as a player then going to the SPL is a backwards step from where he is currently at IMO.

Like most on here, if £3million is offered for Brown, then without a doubt the offer ,in my opinion will be accepted. Though whether it be done deal by Sept 1st (window closing) is debateable. Of course it will mean we probably dont have a prayer of signing a replacement, unless we have targets still lined up. Though we would have the "loan window" opening up a week later to try and bring someone in.

My heart says keep him, the head says sell him for that amount.

Spot on. I mean, why would he want to go and play in front of 60,000 every other week when he can move up a division and play against the likes of Barnsley, Doncaster and Coventry.

slightly off topic, but you do know celtic wouldn't exist without hartlepool?
check your history books, but hartlepool men were founder members of the club.

The lad who scored two goals for Colchester against us the other week cost them £2million plus I think from Crewe (is it Maynard they call him?). So, I don't see why it is unreasonable to expect a similar amount...

I move that we start giving warnings to anyone who uses the three words "the likes of" when referring to non top-flight clubs.

Well, apart from Darlington that is.
