That was the greatest night in the modern history of Hartlepool United Football Club.

It's like Beijing, Mutley, I don't think people have still realised the magnitude of what has just been achieved tonight...and all the stayaways will wish that they went !!!!!

I am not a stayaway, I've got a valid reason, my concern is with those who choose NOT to go because they have a gripe with the Club

I can't go to home games now that I'm going to Uni, or not too often anyway, what I'm unhappy about are people who normally went to the games but are not going now, credit crunch or no credit crunch.

I will be at Peterborough, singing loudly than ever:

There is no credit crunch, people are getting paid the same whilst bills go through the roof, fook all to do with credit! Perhaps you'll understand this when you leave the bosom of your student accommodation. Things like the Olympics and Eurovision (and to some extent even pools) start to take a back seat to real life and the fact people are really struggling to power their homes and put food on the table.

You'll understand one day and perhaps be a bit more sensitive to other peoples reasons for not doing things or caring about things.

Are you on drugs?

Did you go to Cardiff?

How can you even qualify that statement without having gone to the match? WBA were shite from what I heard. Great result, but to say it's the greatest moment ever is adding an extra-thick veneer of rose tint to your already bright red glasses

Point is Groovy, would you rate tonight's win was a bigger moment in our history than, say, us nearly beating the Busby Babes back in 1957 or taking Manchester United apart 6-0? Or Crystal Palace, given the side we were then compared to now?

It's like the kid's never seen a football game, never mind Pools

Well said POK, it was a battling performance tonight and with our best 2 strikers off the pitch we outbattled them and outthought them and if i'd have missed tonights game i'd have been very very disappointed

end of the day it WAS a great result and a great game and it was a better performance than that against palace but it saw the birth of two 'new' pools players - matty robson as an out and out winger - at last matty great stuff and ritchie jones as a grafting midfielder rather than an average winger.

a great result against a much 'better' team

Well said Mr Yubep.

Once he gets into the real world he'll realise that eating and having a roof over your head are a bit higher up the priority list.

At the moment he thinks that there is only him with what he would consider a valid reason for not being there.

Yeah, I went to Cardiff and getting to a major final was the greates achievement then for the club, but it was never the same as reaching Wembley although the Stadium ws impressive, but we only managed to be 8 minutes away from Championship football before Sheffield Wednesday equalised.

Last night was ONLy the Carling Cup, which some people think that it's unimportant even though, it's a trip to Wembley and a crack at silverware at the end - that's why in my opinion, I value every cup competition, even if that includes the Johnstones Paint Trophy.

But no mistake about it what we achieved last night was absolutely stunning. We not only beat at our home WEST BROMWICH ALBION, founder members of the Football League with a stadium maybe thre, four times the size of Pools with bigger celebrity fans like Frank Skinner and Adrian Chiles, but we beat them by a clear distance.

To score one goal against Premiership opposition is fantastic.
To score two goals is absolutely stunning.
To score THREE goals and WIN in extra time is simply UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!

Well said, groovycrimes, my sentiments exactly - this is a fanatastic result in any form and should be valued as a moment of pure history for the Club.

I simply believe that if something is a passion of yours that made you happy, if you were really passionate about it, in moderation, the current economic climate would not deterr you from going to the games and do things which made you happy even in this miserable existance we call life.

Life without Pools is simply unthinkable.

I did not say I wanted OBEs or honours for those swimmers who didn't win a medal this year. I was simply explaining what's likely happen not that Team GB has returned home.

Like it or lump it, still without a medal, Jemma Lowe was part of the greatest British Olympic team for 100 years. Just to be part of what we have achieved out there is an achievement !!!

As for recession, I thought this sort of thing wasn't supposed to happen in 2008. Even though we are having problems, we are more wealthier now than in the recession of the 1970s, the Winter of Discontent, three-day weeks and high oil prices (how appropriate is that). Compared to then and compared to the poorest in Africa, we are still rich.

No, of course not, but we are still comfortable even though we've got problems, today's climate is bad but it's not dangerous, with a secure source of revenue for my family, I would.....and you know what, they would probably want to come along !!!!

No, of course not, but we are still comfortable even though we've got problems, today's climate is bad but it's not dangerous, with a secure source of revenue for my family, I would.....and you know what, they would probably want to come along !!!![/quote]

We are still comfortable?

Who is we?

Are you speaking for me?

Well said, groovycrimes,

MR Groovycrimes if you dont mind

Busby Babes was before my time, but we lost so that wasnt a great achievement
Cardiff wasnt a major final,it was a play off & we lost
Man Utd 6-0 was a friendly

In all my years watching Pools last night stands up there as one of the best.
Just because it was the Carling cup doesnt make it any less of an achievement than the Palace result in 93.
Those who stayed away have their own reasons & its nobody elses business but their own.I dont see any need to go arguing or insulting each other about it.

I was at the Man Utd game in a fairly sparsely populated ground.

1-0 huge cheers
2-0 bigger cheers
3-0 wild cheers
4-0 big cheers but heads being scratched
5-0 subdued cheers and disbelief
6-0 murmured cheers and lots of people shaking heads.

A good night, hilarious to stuff them 6-0 but a great night........ naw. On the scale of great days it doesn't even register when compared to the likes of Cardiff. Yes we lost but it wasn't just about the result, it was about little 'artlepool playing in front of 60 odd thousand people and almost doing the unthinkable. A bit like the 4-3 Man Utd game before most of us were born.
