Through in 4th place again, to the final, 6th fastest qualifier, maybe pacing herself for a medal!

do they just attach a piece of cotton to the butterfly and run with it?
And do they get disqualified if it flies away?

That's absolutely fantastic news, that, I might stay up to watch the final - hopefully on top of her civic reception and freedom of the borough by the council, she'll be given a lap of honour at Pools at home to either Stockport or Cheltenham !!!!!

Indeed, parmo, I forgot about that, but who'd pay for it. Mind you they did one down at Tonbridge for Kelly Holmes when she won her medals.

Touche, but you can never forget where you are born.

We should get some sort of flag made up to honour her achievement, Pools' and the town, should she pick a medal up in Beijing.

HARTLEPOOL GLOBETROTTERS: CARDIFF 2005, BEIJING 2008.

Does anybody know who the other only Hartlepudlian was to represent GB at the Olympics ?

Is anybody staying up tonight to watch the final - I don't think I'll be able to.

Can somebody post the result on the board tomorrow ?

I'm out tomorrow at Highgate Cemetery, so might watch highlights ready for the proud victory ceremony....

...The raising of maybe the Union Jack in a far-off Eastern shore and our great national anthem, quite possibly the loudest its ever been sung, by a daughter of Hartlepool.

I'd tolerate you if you were funny or original but you're just a complete dullard.

Margaret Auton represented GB in the 1968 Mexico Games at 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 4*100m medley - and she did it training at Seaton Carew baths!

Wasn't Christine Kindon also in that same team, I think that was her name. There were definitely two of them.

There was another international level swimmer around at that time but I don't know if she was selected for the Olympics. I can't find any reference to her.
