Universal Music have just released http://www.losttunes.com. I covered it at work today and it looks fantastic. Like iTunes they sell music, except it's free of DRM so you can stick it on CD or mp3 players.

They have stuff that was released on Trojan, Fiction, Decca, Verve, A&M, Motown, Stax and a few others, plenty of rare or unreleased music. I figured given that a lot of this board like rare music, they may enjoy it!

Haha, just now? That's brilliant.

I write for a computing/software company and that was one of the best bits of news I saw in a while - the list is amazing. They have a load of La's stuff that was unreleased too, which I'll no doubt get hold of soon

No and digital rights management. It effectively makes it impossible to play tracks anywhere else, which is what iTunes loves doing.

And I knew you'd mention LP quality Elvis... the argument has been raging for weeks on 6Music, and to a certain extent I agree. Still, if you like a song enough and you don't have it on LP, the puritan values tend to leave the system

No, no, no, no and again, no..........I CRINGE when I see stuff like this.

Let's take Caravan, already mentioned by one poster in this thread.

I have "Land Of Grey And Pink" on a lovely, warm, thick, luscious 1971 Deram LP. It sounds STUNNING. It's the most prefectly produced, Canterbury-clever and incredible album ever.

In 1988 or whenever cd's came out, I bought it, for the car, on a flimsy, AAD Decca Compact f***' Disc. It's shiit. It's not the same album. It's tinny, it's crappy, it's shite.

For f*** sake leave these classics ALONE. rage rage rage rage rage rage

I used to be an avid record collector and would only buy 180g or 200g records. I played them on B&O or nackamichi turntables and the turntables were placed on solid inch thick slabs of slate...... then I started to go deaf........ cd's fill the hole now and even digital hearing aids make a difference but nothing can replace true hearing.

I already own "Land Of Grey And Pink" & "Girls who grow plump in the night" on vinyl and several Camel albums I intend to get from this site soon, my problem was no record player and even if I did have one I would not want to risk some of the rarer albums I have.
