when Gazprom gets to be the UK's main supplier, we may as well learn to start lighting fires with twigs as it's all we'll be able to afford.

You'll be blaming her for Janice Budtz's performances last season next.

Ripper, a question. Did Thatcher oversee/preside over privatisation of the utilities?

Call me back when this is NEWS, not speculation. Then it might be worth debating. Thank you.

I've been told that you get very good value for your council tax. This is based on the significant amount of food-related rubbish that the bin men remove from your household on a regular basis. Just what I've heard like.

Unfortunately the largest coal supplier to the UK is Russia and Russian imports now exceed UK production. So do you want your gas from Russia or your coal from Russia. Never mind - Gordon Brown's wind farms will keep him warm at night.

If you wish to stay warm from Britain's wind farms anytime in the next 40 years, might I recommend a diet of beans and sprouts and a plastic zip up one piece??

I think you'll find that's called biomass - but it only provides heat if you light it

and their gas?

I understood British Gas would be the first this time.

I'm on Scottish Powers Price Fix till 2011 so there'll be no 70% rises for me. :coool:

It's about time consumers started taking some responsability though. Half the country have never switched and there will be people out there who never will. All of the main 6 energy companies are making a fortune and many of them take their customers for granted because too many people are too bone idol to look for cheaper tariffs. Anyone in the north east who is still paying Npower/BG really must have more money than sense......

BG are the cheapest for us, we went with them 2 years ago and have a fixed rate till 2010. With the way things are going we got a pretty good deal

You're right - that's the cheapest tariff on the market at the moment by some distance and Martin Lewis said that it was rubbish and consumers should steer clear of it when it was launched. Now he's telling everyone to get a fixed deal... sctatchinghead

I should of said anyone who is on the BG/Npower standard tariffs is paying well over the top.....

It's not just about cost though is it. At our last house we were with NPower cos they were the cheapest at the time and I had no end of bother with them.

Since we moved two years ago I've been with British Gas and their customer service has been excellent so I'm not looking to change supplier to try and save a pound or two a month yet spend hours on the phone and writing letters to them when they fk up.

Try www.ebico.co.uk and then say you won't change......... Honest you will thank me. No standing charge, one tarrif no matter how you pay, CCQ, key and card, DD. They are a charity and they fix their prices in February with their supplier so no price increases with ebico until Feb 09 at the earliest which means we get a cheap (er) winter this year.

The best deals on the market will save you anywhere between 300-500 quid per year on British Gas's prices. 99% of the time you won't have bother switching, personally I wouldn't let one bad experience with Npower stop you from getting away from the rip off merchants that are British Gas!
