Its hard to argue with that record just what the doctor ordered at the minute, well done Danny Wilson.

I bit more impressive than some of Scotty's 18 year loan players last season!!

My mate has just phoned his Hull City supporting mate who knew nothing about it 'cos he'd just got in from work and he was very surprised that we'd got him, he said a lot of positive things about him , mainly that if you give him the chance he'll usually put it away, his only critism was that he's sometimes a bit too easily knocked of the ball, according to the Hull lad we've got a good'un

We create plenty of chances, it's scoring we fall down on, let's hope he gets a hattrick on his debut against Barnet

Well it sounds like y'all got what you were asking for.
Quite honestly, apart from getting Boydy back I can't see how DW could have done much better than this. On first sight it looks like a good move.

But it still doesn't explain to me how all the other players - apart from perhaps Liddle - are going to start scoring goals too.

GOT TO BE the best chance ever to make his debut against a struggling Barnet side depleted of most of their strike force

unless they are trying the loid/ joe chin stunt on us

Looks like he knows where the back of the net is (2 seasons ago he'd scored 14 in the first 11 games for Falkirk) and is starting to make me feel a little more positive.

Re: the comment about whether it'll start the other players scoring. If we can find a good striker then we'll certainly have the ball in the oppositions half for longer so I'd think we'd create more chances. At the moment big Jon is heading the ball into space, and Joel is falling on his arse every time we reach the final third. Foley, Robson and Liddle have enough creativity in them collectively to cause some plenty of problems, we just need a striker with half an inch of sense upfront.

He played in the Champions League less than 3 years ago (admittedly for six minutes!)

whoa there....
..evry time we sign a player an outbreak of euphoria runs rampant...(unless of course they have a shite track record prior to arrival)....let's just see what he can do here and ask me after a few matches.

I see and agree with your point.
But I think the main point is everybody's been screaming for us to sign a proven goalscorer and here he is. Wilson has done what we wanted. And on first sight there's absolutely no way anyone can criticise his choice.

But, as you imply, no player is guaranteed to bag hatfuls of goals.
If he turns out to be a duffer ('scuse pun) what then?
What the fook then??

He says on the official site that he isn't but should come good after the second game.

Lets see something before we get too excited. I seem to remember that Effion had the best ever scoring record in the Welsh league.

That was kind of where I was going; he is unlikely to turn up and score a hattrick in his debut or why would Hull release him given their own problems. Like you I hope the MHM (Mill House Moaners) give him time.

he looks to be just what we are lacking, but he probably hasn't been in the best of form given how bad Hull have been this season. Any good player can be made to look bad in a bad side (Paul Heffernan at Notts County, Luke Beckett at Stockport etc), but their confidence can come flooding back if they get into a team which has the capability to win regularly, or even just playing against opponents of a much lower standard than what they are used to.
Here's hoping the lad does himself justice, and it has certainly given me a boost because I've been very depressed about Pools this week (no league wins in four now - we HAVE to win tomorrow)

Let's look at this 'Spocks' way..... just because a player may have scored a hatful of goals at previous clubs, it does not mean the player will be guaranteed to do so at whatever club he plays at. HOWEVER, past form indicates that after a period of familiarisation the mathematical odds are that he will be capable of producing the sort of form we desire of a forward, BEARING IN MIND THAT THIS IS BASED PURELY ON MATHEMATICAL PROBABILITY AND SUBJECT TO UNANTICIPATED EVENTS OR SITUATIONS WHICH MAY PROVE DETRIMENTAL TO THE SAID PLAYERS ABILITY OR PRFORMANCE CRITERIA. Despite this, the definitive answer will not be given until we are able to analyse his performances and achievementsts at a later date. OK...?

Ok, are you sitting comfortably? then I'll begin.

Effion Williams came from the Welsh league where he scored record levels of goals. I can't remember the exact figures but it was in the region of 40 -50 a season. He came to us via Torquay and has never hit the net that regularly. There was the one season (02-03) when he hit 15 but that aside his tally has always been in single figures.

Now this lad did a similar thing in chillyjockoland but to date has never cut it with Hull. This may be for all sorts of reasons but the fact remains.

The point is that a good scoring record in a foreign league doesn't automatically transfer to the English league. He's a potentially very good signing but lets see him on the pitch and scoring a few before we start building churches in his honour.

No it hasn't. He was top scorer the season after too, with 14 goals, despite playing a lot fewer games as striker. And after that he hardly ever played striker at all.
Besides which I'd hazard a guess goals are a lot harder to score in SL1 and SPL than in LOW.

Anyway, time will tell, but on first sight the Duffy signing makes a lot more sense than those of McDonald, Pittman, and Walker. (I'm convinced it was Scotty who gave Goran the idea of taking Walcott to Germany.)
