To be honest 95% of the people listed so far are far from cult heroes if you ask me.

A cult hero IMO should be someone provides entertainment through unconventional ways. Monty Panesar is a cult hero with the English Barmy Army as you'd see better fielding and batting in village cricket.

From those listed in my lifetime I'd agree with Skedd, Gus, Brian Horne, Dark Lord, Hugh, Brian Cox.

If Stig Larsen had played a few more games then he'd have made it!

Yup. I've just done him for the firtst one, I reckon he was my first "Cult Hero" at Pools, SUPERB header of the ball!

He's been in Florida for 25 years but has just returned home to run a pub in Chester.

Best of all, WHAT A NICE BLOKE!!! Loves Pools and even came to a game in our Promotion Season when he was home on holiday.

I remember him scoring a header from outside the box once - a stunning goal. I also remember coming across an article in a daily paper years later which recounted a tale about Geoff Hurst playing in the American league. One of the American fans went up to him and said - "the last bloke we had from England was better than you"! None other than John Rowlands clappp

He got done again last year for pissed up driving so he learned nothing.

Hero...................... f*** off.

I agree with every word you say about Bob Newton OFF the field, but my good memories of him is as a player. That is why he is one of, if not my favourite, Pools player. I'm remembering him for what he did for us as a player. He must of terrified centre halfs as he ran at them.

Come on, you can't differentiate between the two. It's like saying that Ian Huntley was ok because he could put a decent cross over. Yeah I know he liked to kidnap, rape and kill young girls but you should have seen him playing left wing.

Can't remember Ian Huntleys time as a player for Pools, when was it?

You can't possible be comparing Bob Newtons stupidity in getting drunk and crashing his car, with all it's terrible consequences, with a child killer like Huntley?

No of course they are not comparable except that in both cases people died. I was using an extreme to demonstrate the point. Probably a bad example to be fair.

I've just checked back through the full thread and I can't believe nobody has mentioned Gary Strodder!

That blokes mullet kept us in the league in 1999, he was superb, and it was his cleared header (by a hand) that led to Denny Ingrams penalty miss and Bakers rebound at Shrewsbury. For me that was the most important Pools goal I've witnessed, we were down if we didn't win that night for me and it was on 90 minutes :coool:

Fuck the loids memories of an unlucky own goal against them in play-offs when on paper it should have been a miss match Strodder was a hero not just a cult hero for Pools.

Oh course I'm right

I'd actually add Gary Jones as well, good player just didn't get the goals his price tag suggested he should have.

i concur

Which season did he (i concur) play for Pools?   bbolt

My choice is Joel Porter: I still think he will surprise a few people next season.
