You're joking?

If they wanna tart around like that it should be paid for by ticket money.

I'm young enough to have went to *prom* (we called it a ball) and the parents paid for mine. I'm sure some of the school budget is set aside for it but most of it is paid for by the pupils themselves.

I think its a fantastic idea. The end of school prom that is not the every year version.

Why shouldn't they have a blow out, the one proviso I would make is that dinner suits for the boys are mandatory. If you're going to have a posh do then do it properly.

My eldest daughter had her one and only prom last year at Yarm and after I had paid for her dress, limo and prom ticket the bill came to just over 200 qiuid for the 5 hours she was out.

Thinking about it you can add onto that a new hair do, a new set of nails and spending money for drinks.

I had to be dragged to the wedding shop near Loons to get my tuxedo by my mam, and just picked out the first nice one I saw. My sister visited shops as far a field as York to find her prom dress before she settled on one! That's without the jewellery, fascinator etc. We're much, much easier.

You really think you could get on to fit? I agree, on you it would look soooo fooking daft. Anyone see the first Batman film? For Danny de Vito as the Pengiun read ADG in a dinner suit.

No you don't...you can't just let a Kid have something because they 'love it'... how do the kids who can't afford it feel, it's all about bragging rights and a nice little earner for those who supply the 'service' and fuel the demand. After the report in the Mail about the Chinese earthquake and the selfish response from the parents of those whose dresses had been lost or delayed, I had nothing but contempt...thousands dead, but some tacky, over priced dress not turning up was the real disaster in their eyes...shallow or what?

What made me seath was the shortness of prom dresses because for a earthquake in China (i think) and parents in the Mail complaining how it was out of order that their children dont have a dress cos there was an earthquake!!

Wish they all suffered what those in Asia went through and had houses falling down on their heads.

We've got our prom on the 15th August and then there's an "after party" at a place in Maidstone that lasts until the early hours four our grammar school

I've got to find a tuxedo from somewhere - if I hire it, going to be expensive.

I don't want to sound like an old man, but I don't like the idea of proms because our society is becoming too Americanised. I'm proud to be British, English, Kentish, Poolie etc, but I don't think proms are for working class people.

I wouldn't have missed not having one - I think there just for the Facebook socialites really.

If your grammar and spelling is anything to go by, you will be going to next year's prom as well following your resits! rolfl

You should try learning German grammar, like what I have done.

It's not easy.

But seriously, when I want correcting on my spelling and grammar, I'll consult the Oxford English Dictionary.

I tend not to read any posts past the opening one as most of it is a load of shit. Snowy, Grave, ADG and acouple of others are the only ones worth reading.

Or is game for a moan? Come on I agree its a load of overpriced tosh along with weddings, christenings and funerals but it does keep people in a job ... and enables these overpriced venues to get a booking in their normal "downtime"
How is it a 'moan' tp point out something which is a utter and complete manipulation of all those traits we'd rather our kids didn't have... we had one 'couple' shown arriving by helicopter down south, the place ecapes me, they were beamonig and the girl said her mother wnated her to be the best, the one the others envied... that summed it up for me, dim people with dimmer values and too much money. As for weddings and funerals, well they are necessary, but I despair at the sheer waste of money now flung at them, serious head shaking time nowadays and does it guarantee happiness...faitytale proms, fairytale weddings....? I dread this trend reaching funerals for this dim generation, they'll have glass coffins and video the lot to a suitable sound track......finally, as for the assorted rabble of opportunists who profit from this whole tacky flauntfest, ...tough.

Part of the problem with life now is people treating kids as adults. Proms are just a pre cursor for kids to get used to a life of ME ME ME!! Arent I great and no one else matters, Its American , its wrong and its cringeworthy.

In my day a kid knew their place, I spent the 70's in the car in the lion car park listening to tees sport whilst my dad and uncle had a pre match pints. When they asked me in at the age of 15 for a shandy I thought all my birthdays had come at once. Of course by then I was drinking anyway but you get my drift.
