I have spent about 15 minutes in this place and seen one absolutely huge fight.

That's 4 an hour!

Not at all. Mostly indie kids, emos and skaters use the place if truth be told. I don't venture to the place for the simple fact that it's out of the way, I'd rather stay up the top end and use Jax.

I've seen Bromheads live quite a few times and they're excellent, not my cup of tea on record though.

poppy bird, great, great song.

one can listen to it free of charge on their my space page.

the sort of band the studio should be putting on once in a while if i dare say so.

So we can emulate the success of Escobar ??

no, so you can put on bands for the entire population of the town, rather than simply ska bands, punk bands and covers bands.

the clashed must play there every six months. ive seen them and they are good at what they do, but surely theres scope for putting on good up and coming bands.

i was talking to a group of kids at the boro music live thing who were into their music and most of them had never even been to the studio.

i know the studio is good at what it does, putting on bands for folk of a certain age, but in the last 10 years im struggling to think of more than 2 bands what played there (athlete and jj72 ) and went on to have a top 30 album.

if you have a superb venue in the town whats wrong with using it once a month to showcase the nations best up and coming bands ?

I agree with most of that....especially about Cover bands but they do bring the punters in....but The Studio could do with putting other cover bands on ie. not The Clashed and The Smythes!!!! confised confised

You mention Ska....I put a Ska night on once every 2 months....I don't think that is over the top!!!! confised
But I have noticed lately that The Studio are putting other 'Ska' bands on which I think is defeating the object like!!!! confised confised

The only time Escobar was ever really packed out was when they got the likes of the Long Blondes or Young Knives on, and I mean packed out in the sense you couldn't move. Jax did it in the past putting on the likes of the Pigeon Detectives (shite, but I digress) and Milburn on and also saw sellouts. I think their is major scope for it in the town and The Studio is missing a trick by not putting more up and coming bands on as I can't imagine they'd be that expensive to get on and the amount of people attending would cover the costs anyway.

Covers bands bring in the audiences & they are audiences that drinf 7 or 8 pints each so thats the reason for those.
Punk & Ska are booked by people who love that music & do it so they can see their favourite bands without going out of town.
The management upstairs mainly deal with 'serious' music such as blues jazz etc
If anyone is interested in putting up & coming indie bands on approach the Studio & ask to speak to Ian or Liz,Im sure they will be receptive to the idea.

If you put a night on theres 2 options,
1 - we pay the bands & keep all the door money
2 - you hire the venue for £150 & you keep all the door money

Jax also shut down last night by the way.
2 venues down.
Music is dying in this town, you are right the studio are missing out by not bringing in the new bands, especcially when there are people in the town, ahem, that have the contacts to bring fairly big names in.

All those people need to do is approach the Studio & work something out.

It has to be said that the studio price themselves out of events like this by charging such a large venue hire on top of paying for the bands

Depends whether you do a venue hire or just book on behalf of the Studio.
If you book on behalf of The Studio then you have no layout at all,The Srudio pay the bands so if it flops you dont lose out.

Didn't Muse play there in some incarnation? I remember Andy Kelly telling me he'd put Mull Historical Society on at the height of their *fame* only for them to back out at the last minute. Feeder have also played there if I can remember correctly, along with Funeral For A Friend.

As Ive already said,if you want more up & coming indie bands then go see the Studio & book them.I know full well that the Studio will pull out the money to pay for a gig if someone wants to book bands & if the audiences turn up then the money will be there to do it regularly.
A lot of people will tell you that putting bands on isnt about making money, its about enjoyment & to a certain extent I agree, but the reality is if you dont generate enough revenue you go under.

Kolley,I dont know the details of why they let Andy go,but they lost a good man there.

Fancy filming a live DVD while you're there then Mr Mut?

If you made a good job of it you might even be able to sell it to the bands!

The reason Punk & Ska are well catered for is because a punk fan & a ska fan got off their arses & booked the bands themselves.Indie will be catered for if an indie fan wants to do the same.

you cant argue with groovy and mutters there like.

Stu and andy, who put the bands on at esco, have enough contacts to get decent bands on, ask bromheads, elliot minor eskimo disco etc have proved, they could easy do it once a month and get the studio full.
