According to the Mail. They aren't economical apparently, so much for private enterprise running things better eh? According to the Sunday Times, Stagecoach has announced its annual pre tax profits had risen 8% to £174,000,000.
It will also affect Pools marginally, for example, a pensioner lives up the Manor and who goes to midweek match and travelled free on their bus pass, now has to get a lift or fork out for a taxi....that should knock a hole in some of the saving made from the cheaper season ticket.
They witter on in their green way about not using the car and using the bus service...well the bus aint there and there's no such thing as 'service'...it's all about profit.....
p.s, ....the council will have to find and estimated £100,000 to save the services...So put em out to tender and if I had my way, I'd exclude the buggers from entering a bid

I used to cycle to the train station and get the train from Hartlepool to Billingham at 06.15, then cycle from Billingham station to work. Then the journey in reverse after my shift. Cheap day return £3. Sadly this is over 17 years ago.
The earliest train I can catch from Hartlepool is half an hour after the start of my shift  rage rage

It's all about the balance sheet, will Stagecoach be giving money back from the over 60's free travel payments as they won't be offering the original level of service?

its all down to greed

when they done away with the photo id on the megariders they opened them up for use by the whole family

basically we are not taking enough cash for their liking
i have been at work from 15.22 until 23.42 and taken the princely sum of £83.20 now each bus costs £14/ hour to run.

its all a smokescreen so the council will pay somebody to run a service

the best option would be for the council to take over the local services again but run it properly not overman it like it was as hartlepool borough transport

This town is closing down, hospitals, post offices, schools, bus services all in the name of providing a better service. pure unadulterated bullshit..what the fook is going on, is there some master plan to Billinghamise the place and turn it into a Tees Valley suburb?
ps .... some of the Court hearings are being moved to Teesside Magistrates Court at Middlesbrough by the way.....all in the name of a better service of course rolfl

Surely you can't expect any company to keep providing a service if they are losing money?

And the council aren't able to run anything effectively.....

i didn't say Stagecoach were losing money, I meant on those services. if there is only two men and a dog using the bus after 8.30 then what is the point in running a bus? or several buses? (serious question)

There's is somethiong called cross subsidy and the big picture...if you applied your logic ro everything we wouldn't have a fire service, ...unless they start charging ... although give them time....... cue converstaion;HELP ME, MY HOUSE IS ON FIRE AND MY FAMILY ARE TRAPPED INSIDE..PLEEEASE GET HERE"....."You are through to Fireout plc, please have your policy number. level of cover covered by your account and credit card details ready as this may affect your insurance excess, we will put you through to a customer advisor wen one is available to take your call, you are in a queue....cue music....(Fire Brigade by the Move)..... your call is important to us, you are moving forward in the queue... "Hello..thees ees Asam...oops Adam wat exactly ees the problem"..."My house is a raging inferno, my family are on fire AAAAGGGHHH"[/b.]....."That's terrible, .......(keyboard tapping) I see we came out to you three years ago for a barbecue fire,...hmm.. what cover do you have, have you considered upgrading to our..."[b] FOR FOOKS SAKE MY HOUSE HAS JUST EXPLODED IN A HUGE FIREBALL...sob wail etc....." so will you still be requiring our service, because if I cancel now you will save the call out fee and your no claims will benefit because...etc etc?...

but what about the money taken during the profitable parts of the day HARTLEPOOL makes a profit but cash takings are down and the greedy bosses are looking to get the council to pay twice.
they are already being paid a set amount for every concession that travels something like £1.30 for every journey made wether its 1 stop or to the boro but you try and get a bus to the boro between 9 and 11 its standing room only.
now they want them to subsidise the nights ie pay again

Think about it Mr Head, Billingham was a prosperous, indepenent, might I even say cutting edge town in the 60's...cue local government reorganisation and it's taken over by Stockton and becomes the suburban village of the damned ..a town stripped of its identity, a sprawling estate where mullets are the next thing.

Then they'll have the nerve to complain they're losing even more money ...... the words 'cause' and 'effect' won't even register. Then what buses only at peak times. Third world services at Kensington prices.

Some awesome points there snowy and your spot on with them all.

I get the number 6 everyday, and i would be fooked if it stopped after half 6, as would my nana, my daughters mam, her nana, my granda, my brother.

It would effect everyone.

People who work shifts, or simply work later than half 6, most people do.

Taxi companies will put there prices up, more people would have to order a taxi so they could add a extra charge on and we'd have no choice but to pay it.

What a pathetic town we live in at times.

Funny you never get this abroad, trainins, taxi's, buses, all running on time, clean, every hour regularly.

Lots of people rely on bus services and when you have your 'services' provided by a monopoly, you are well and truly at their tender mercy. 'Services' will end up running on the most profitable routes at the most convenient times for the bus company....and our politicians are on about bus services to a new out of town hospital......where exactly does the pensioner get the money from to visit their other half twice a day for a taxi...these decisions have wider effects than a balance sheet.

i know i am pointing out that the company are just trying to get two bites of the cherry
i would put money on the services remaining
it is like the service 5 and 15 fiasco again
and they are both still running
there will be a compromise reached and everyone can carry on as normal

surely one of the criteria of acceptance of the contract to run PSV's in any town, is that the company cannot just cut services at its own behest?? If it's written in the original agreement, it would be binding and then they can't wriggle out of providing early/late services - without losing the franchise as a penalty clause.
The Local Govt authorities surely must have the final say in these matters - who supposedly runs the country??

Doesn't work like that...they run the services as commercial services without a subsidy and keep the takings.. What they're saying is we don't want to run buses when they don't make enough money...unless you pay us to run them!...in which case, put it out to tender.

The legacy of Thatcherism , unfortunately carried on by NU Labour, the worst is yet to come I think, this country going the same way as the Roman Empire. Of course towns like Hpool are always last to feel the effects of a boom and the first to feel the effects of a recession. An economy built solely on the housing boom was doomed to fail. No manufacturing base now yet we still import 50% of our coal from abroad. The future is a life of unemployment , rising prices low wages and short term contracts with few union rights. We are doomed I tell you , DOOMED!!!

my friend lives in hong kong and he says the same thing, cheap taxi's, buses and trains and they all run regularly and on time.

It's summit in this country we have never ever been able to enjoy.

I'm with ronaldo.... we're all doomed!

If stagecoach cancel the 6 after half 6 will you only be allowed to post during the day?

Or you'll have to change your name to the number.....

shit what buses will still run on a night?

none really, the 4, 5, 12 and stuff all stop at tea time.

You'll have to be the number 36 bus, though that is a boro bus, well boro via france, it takes that long!
