Okay, so now we've agreed Glastonbury is SHITE, can we have an agreement that Wimbledon is equally SHITE.

There's never going to be a british winner, we even tried to cheat with a canadian.

It's always going to rain so there will always be interuptions to the matches.

There will always be people, usually middle aged house wifes who have wet dreams over the bloke tennis players because their middle aged fat salesmen husbands can't satisify them, sitting outside on 99p folder up garden chairs from Asda queuing for tickets outside SW1 (FFS!), that's not newsworthy by the way.

It's played on grass but by the end of the fortnight they are playing on soil because the grounds man is shite.

Strawberries and cream, champagne, Henman hill, cliff fucking richard, blah blah fucking blah......

I went to Wimbledon last year on a jolly. It was a decent day out but nothing to make me want to go back. However, my ex missus would die to go there every day of the tournament. Each to their own I suppose.

You could be onto something there, but as I've not had the displeasure of having any other tournament rammed down my throat by the press, I couldn't subscribe to that theory.

Betty Evert Wadygong was best.
I don't have much interest in it really.

For me, it's gone downhill in exactly the same way tournament snooker has, because there are too few 'characters' left in the game. Who wants to watch a robot?
Bring back Jimmy Connors, I say

Would you know this is the same kind of pessimisitic attitude that the Brits have about Wimbledon, which they also have about Eurovision. Like Eurovision, the British immediately write off their chances and hark back to the golden days before they let the competitors do their stuff. Like people who criticise the institution of the Eurovision Song Contest, the British criticise Wimbledon for being the same old traditional thing every year - traditions being what makes an apparant institution a timeless and classic institution. Then people will also critiise these institutions for being popular with only kind of person and making the person feel discrimnated against. As a result, they will ignore it.

Weirdly, both also have Sir Cliff Richard in them ? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead rolfl rolfl

The British, used to love Cliff Richard - now like Eurovision, they hate him.

What song did Wycombe play when we won promotion - yes that's right:

Congratulations
And celebrations
When I tell everyone that youre in love
With me
Congratulations
And jubilations
I want the world to know Im happy as can be.

Who could believe that I could be happy and
Contented
I used to think that happiness hadnt been
Invented
But that was in the bad old days before
I met you
When I let you
Walk into my heart

Congratulations...

I was afraid that maybe you thought you
Were above me
That I was only fooling myself to think you
Loved me
But then tonight you said you couldnt live
Without me
That round about me
You wanted to stay

Congratulations...

Congratulations
And jubilations
I want the world to know Im happy as can be
I want the world to know
Im happy as can be

But seriously, why do we as a nation do this ?

I don't have a problem with Eurovision, its harmless enough.

What I would like to see us do though is stick an established band in, Coldplay, Keane, Robbie Williams, then sit back and laugh along with our crazy european cousins!!

Whats eurovision got to do with wimbledon?

He loves it that guy, fits it into every single post!

It's gash, every song is gash, everything about is awful.

I'm not against it, just rubbish music.

I only bring it up because that and Wimbledon serves (no pun intended) as a metaphor for the pessimistic attitude the British have sometimes with these competitions.

I saw the Bosnian entry for the first time in the semi-final and I thought it was the worst Eurovision entry I'd ever seen. By the time the contest had finished, although I couldn't understand of Bosnian, I'd downloaded the song on my MP3.

But Bosnia FFS, nine years ago they were at war with every other Yugoslavian - as referenced by my quote below from Auf Wiedersehen Pet. The difference being, nine years later, the Bosnians have got their act together, if you'll forgive the pun.

We haven't.

And I do not fit Eurovision into every single post, you know.

that's because they aren't allowed to make a "cunnilingus" gesture at them - not in public anyways

They can for the ball boys, just not the ball girls. With ball-girls they're allowed to do the Michael Jackson crotch grip and pelvic thrust

Unless they're Catholic and then anything goes.

Surely the only point of Wimbledon being on the telly is to look up the bewers skirts and try and get an eagle at the camel's toe?

Wimbledon...the only time all year that people use tennis courts.
I'm afrid we'll never be any good at it because it's one of those social climbing elitist sports that excludes the average kid and restricts the talent pool to the offspring of the chosen.

This is totally true! The day I left to move to Leeds, the Granville Lawn Tennis Courts were full - I haven't seen more than a pair of 50 year old toffs playing there all year!
