......... Sgt Pepper taught the band to play..... AND....

Pools allowed Middlesbrough FC borrow Victoria Park (then Victoria Ground) to play their opening game of the season after the official receiver was called in to Ayresome Park and the gates were chained and locked.

Pools played Cardiff City that day 3pm kick off and Boro played Port Vale 5:30pm kick off I believe.

Now look at The Smoggies.. playing Chelsea this evening at The Riverside!

I attended both games, the second one out of morbid curiosity.

What a day! I came home on leave especially to see it. Four teams in the town at the same time. I never actually seen any trouble, just shit loads of Police.

Was there any fisticuffs ?

I don't think it has ever happened that 2 league games have been played at the same gound on the same day. Another record Pools will never lose? :???:

There was at the Pools Cardiff game...including an airborne exchange of the Mill House seats.

Yeah there was some fisticuffs I seem to remember some young Pools fan had a lucky escape he was seated in Milhouse stand and a seat was thrown in his direction frisby style and it smacked into the seat next to him!

Also a bit of chew outside with Boro fans waiting for Pools to leave the ground, I showed my true colours and hid in some-ones back yard!

I think The Clansman went up aswell.

We also played Boro in The League Cup later in the week it pissed down for 90 minutes!! Oh happy days!

I went to both games as well.
There was a canny lot of fisticuffs and running around in big hooligan style gangs for the midweek boro match. I remember walking home from the match, and all these boro fans came round the corner about one hundred metres ahead of us, obviously looking to kick some heads. The police were inbetween us and they turned round and actually charged the pools fans, the fannies, just to get in there before the boro boys did. I remember seeing this police dog bite this blokes arm (coat?) and thinking, this is ridiculous this, why arent they charging the ones who are actually looking for violence?
