that reminds a bit of us recording at Martin Carthy's studio in Robin Hoods Bay.
We'd booked the studio proper early for some strange reason.
The engineer [another waterson type] was very hospipatable and showed us round the kitchen saying we could help ourselves to tea and coffee, I said what about that drinks cabinet?
bearing in mind the ungodly hour we were at he said 'yeah, if you want but its a bit early...'

cue 4 veeeeeeeeeeeery pissed junior elvis types singing the worst ever recorded folk songs at 12 noon :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh: ,and in Martin Carthy's studio too!

how I cringe now

We went to a studio that Pete Townsend owns, or did own, under Brixton Arches, where Electric Avenue meets the Frontline. We stood out a bit when we went for something to eat while the Aussie engineer set up for the final mixdown. Dunno why.....goat patties are quite tasty when you're eating in a hurry.......

Anyway we went back in, and there was a problem in that the cables were humming between the desk, the head and the burner. The gaffer (not Pete Townsend but the nearest thing you've seen to Bob Hoskins) totally lost it and said to this Aussie kid that he'd better get his stuff, fook orf and if he was seen this side of the river again he'd get his legs broken.

When the kid had fled he told us we could come down next Sunday and the mix wouldn't be touched all week and he'd get a new engineer in and wouldn't charge us. He just instantly calmed down. Maybe the kid had annoyed him before.

He was as good as his word and gave us a free day while apologising if we'd been intimidated.

We were!!

The only recordings I've ever done was in the Kitchen listening to the Top 40 and using a massive 'tsk' when someone came and started talking over Tight Fit's 'Lion Sleeps Tonight'!!!!
