The new direct trains from London keep getting cancelled.

The coach I got last time took six hours.

What is the best way to get up there for a Pools match from the South ?

Travel on national express( used to be GNER) trains from Kings X. If you book about a month in advance you will get some great rates. I have done Donny to KX and back for as little as £11-50 each way.
If you wait and buy a return on the day of travel it will cost over £100.If you go on the national express website and book online, you will normally get another 10 per cent off.
If you register with national express they will alert you when the tickets become available to book, enabling you to get the best prices. Hope this helps.

National speed limit is 70 MPH, though.

If I could be bothered to read it I would probably find that it is bogstandard propoganda about safe speeds to drive.

Safe speeds which were set when cars where much more primitive in terms of their safety features but also more importantly their brakes.

The motorway / trunk road limit should be put up to 100mph and at the same time increase the penalties for breaking it.

And twts who speed in town should be put in the stocks.

Bloody hell Ripper I find myself agreeeing with you on crime and punishment for once!

I still think Transit vans should be prohibited from doing 100mph like (at the manufacturer's end).

We had a Bunker out out to Peterborough a couple of seasons ago and it only cost us around £19 return from Darlo to Perterborough, I reckon this would be another chance to let the train the strain this season

The whole highway code braking distance thing is a joke. Fine, it may take you 100 yards to stop in a 1961 Ford Anglia but modern cars with modern brakes, ABS and intelligent systems etc will reduce that massively.

The safety aspect is so overblown too; hit a wall in our example Anglia at 40 MPH and you're gonna die. You can have a head on crash at more than double that speed in a new Mondeo for instance and walk away.

Apart from all that nonsense, helicopter from London City would be the best way Mr Kentish.

Hope that helps.

Is there another way of getting to Hartlepool that doesn't involve getting a train from Newcastle back down, like from Leeds or somewhere like that ?

by car without a doubt. I haven't got the train for years although that said, I am going up next saturday and it's costing me £95! I was going to try Grand Central but after what has been said on here, not going to risk it. I see they are in the mail for leaving people stranded again tonight.

Train to Darlo has always been a good service and you can pick up some bargains when booking in advance. I don't think there is a direct train to hartlepool from Darlo anymore (probably not for over 10 years!) but you can still get some links via thornaby. You just need to check 'national rail enquiries'.
