Could be possible - Mirror reporting Shearer could be touted out in Austria to return to his old club - he would bring Newell with him.

Great, they could sign Adam Boyd.

Nothing at all wrong with Boyd - I only mentioned it as Shearer used to rate him & Newell paid half a million for him.

He was a manager of Hartlepool United Football Club, was he not ?

Therefore he's an ex-Poolie.

Surely even Mick Tait and Garry Gibson are ex-Poolies - unpopular with the fans for varying reasons but still involved with the club somehow.

Why was Mick Tait unpopular with the fans Kentish? Gibson OK, but Taity? sctatchinghead

BTW, Newell will NEVER be a Poolie in my eyes. Scouse Gunt.

Why do we hate Newell so much, even after giving the 14-pont lead away, being an "alcholic" etc.

I just chose Tait because he was an example of one of our more unsuccessful managers i.e. manager when we would have gone down if not for Joe 90 at Darlo.

That's right, yeah. I was on Rivals for a couple of years. But I started coming here since they changed the format.

Well, one day when you have an hour I shall PM you the long and drawn out story of Elvis (and PJ Poolie) Versus Newell.

Haha, I'm 22 and I'm old enough to think Newell's a dick. Anyone who shows him any level of reverence is clearly in need of a slap with a brick

It's not so much reverence more respect - I still show "respect" for the man because he took us back (although Turner did much of the leg work, three play offs, will love him til I die because of it) into the third tier of English football for the first time in twelve, long, hard, grim years.

I still had respect for Cooper when he left and joined Gillingham because he was a great manager.

I wanted to kill Wilson when he knocked-us out of the play-offs, but now I obviously love him because he got us promoted, just nearly won the title - football's a funny old game etc - he's a great bloke, great manager etc#, hope he'll be the one that writes the greatest chapter of Pools history (Bit Obama like, there, eh ?) :uhoh:

Of course you'll have respect for Cooper - the bloke was probably our best ever manager, particularly given the timeframe he worked in and the end product.

Newell did nothing for the club. He got sacked after losing an 11 or 12 point lead set by his predecessor and bottling the title

Once a scouser always a scouser. Ask Newell if he thinks he's an ex poolie.

Your totally totally wrong there, Newell actually built up the 12-15 point lead that we had.

When Turner left I think we we're about 6 points ahead.

Funny how people change things to suit an argument.

And that is a pedantic reflection. How many fookin points does the statement have to be wrong by for it not to be pedantry?
20? 30?

Newell took a four point lead from his predecessor.

But go ahead just allow any old figures to be pulled out of an arse to prove a point, why not.

It is not whether the fact is right or wrong that prompted the post of pedantry, it is my observation that you appear to have appointed yourself the moderator of whether a post is truthful or not.

Your pursuit of the truth in all things is an admirable objective, but this is only a messageboard after all, a messageboard where people come to find out about pools and things concerning pools, even enjoy themselves at light hearted banter or the ridiculous, and perhaps express views or frustrations. Your approach, if you read some what you have recently posted, suggests your enjoyment comes from trawling posts to see who you can pick up on inaccuracies. It is this which in my opinion is pedantic and borders on rarfism and arsyness contrary to membership of this board. bbolt

Much of which you can class as debate.
In which case it does no harm to have the facts.

You don't have to trawl posts to read incorrectly for the 100th time that Newell threw away his predecessor's 14 point lead. I can only assume those who insistently say so have very short memories or else weren't taking notice that season.

I make no apologies for pointing that out.
