Had an idea recently of doing some cd's for mates....
I used to love doing cd's for people, sharing music etc.
Anyway, two of the three people I will be doing them for are very knowledgeable about music. This was my idea....very simple.
I do a cd entitled No 1's and on it I put only what i consider to be great songs that are first on a particular album. Ditto No 2's etc.
I wont give them a setlist. I dont like doing that. They can be surprised. And setlists mean they start making judgements before they even hear the songs rather than just go with the flow - like a gig or a good radio station.
They'd get one a month and never know what would be on until they played them

I was thinking of starting the cd's off with these...

No 1's - Five Years by Bowie (would also include The Way by Bonnie Prince Billy, Knocked Up by Kings of Leon, Alsation Cousin by Morrissey, Showgirl by The Auteurs
No 2's - A Night In by Tindersticks then Too Sick to Pray (acoustic) by Alabama 3
No 3's - Wild Cats of Kilkenny by The Pogues
No 4's - Love of the Loveless by The Eels
No 5's - Hedonist by The House of Love
No 6's - Dread Lion by Lee Scratch Perry
No 7's - Roads by Portishead
No 8's - err ?
No 9's - Do you Realize? by The Flaming Lips followed by Ocean Rain by the Bunnymen
No 10's - Angel Sigh by Spiritualized

Any thoughts?
What do you reckon are the best opening and second songs on cd's?

mmmm....wouldnt have considered The Chemical Brothers but that would be a good song to start an album with, especially if it was followed by Five Years.
Also like Pj Harvey and Roxy Music
