A quality night indeed my friend.. thanks once again for the lift... I hope you found your way through 'Blair Witch Country' okay and there was no nonsence from the Wheatley Hill pit pony and no low flying/crashing vulcan bombers over wingate.

A great gig in a great venue... Hugh looked every inch an ageing rock hero reared on a diet of sex ,drugs and rock 'n' roll, but there's now substitute for class and quality.. playing alternate hits of Stranglers and solo peices he blew The Cluny punters away, starting with Duchess, Leave Me Alone and Nice and Sleazy, and after watching from a far (if that's at all possible in such a tight, intermate venue, I could no longer hold back and refrain from keeping myself from the throng of the 'mosh-pit' and a bold move it was too, as HC and his 3 piece band (including Cazza on bass ,now the proud owner of a leopard thong) finished with an awesome finale of Walk On By.... No More Heroes.... Sweden and Down In The Sewer!

What?
I didnt know he played that stuff on his solo gigs
You never told me
I would have bloody gone.
I thought he just doodled around on an acoustic guitar or something.
The Cluny isnt my local in terms of being nearby but its the place I go for a drink more than anywhere else.
PS - The Cluny has a new manager who seems like a bit of an arse.
A friend of mine made a complaint about one of their security staff the day after the gig by The View. He was honestly trying to break the necks of those who came surfing over the top.
The response was "I hate putting gigs on like that anyway and if it was up to me we wouldnt anymore"
Arse
Thats how it made its name in the first place
It'll be experimental jazz from next year.

in addition to my Hugh gig review... (oh and not fogetting the punkscious Caz on bass)...

.....It would be churlish of me to compare last night's gig with the recent Stranglers set at Durham Uni a few weeks ago, as they were both equally enjoyable in their own rite. But a note on The Stranglers, now that they've got rid of that cock sure, blonde, cockney git of a vocalist (Paul Roberts) and replaced him with Sunderland born Baz Warne who is first and foremost a Stranglers fan and having reverted back to a four piece with former Vibrator's member John Ellis no longer a Strangler, they have gone back to what they do best, performing for their hardcore fans, playing gritty numbers on a foundation of Jet's roll of the pig skins, JJ's bloody base, Dave's massive swelling organ with a hint of psychedelic guitar thrown in for good measure!

Punk will never die!!

True Chip, very true.
When I saw Field Music I was stood on the stairs and could only see one and a half of the band. If I leaned forward and craned my neck I could see two and a half but was in danger of toppling on top of others.
Also a pain to get there using public transport and canny hard to find if you dont already know where it is.
But good beer, good bands and singers and more good pubs around it. The Ouseburn is the only place I would ever go out drinking in Newcastle.
Going there Saturday night.

dont you think the cluny is possibly the most shiit venue in the world to actually SEE a band ? if its full, half the audience have f*** all chance of actually seeing anything.

Theyve re-done it now Chip & replaced those arches with a couple of posts so you can see the bands from up the top.
