I bought a second hand car the other day and the previous keeper had upgraded the stereo and the speakers. Unfortunately I realised as I set off to drive home that I had not brought any CD's. I switched on the cd player to listen to the radio instead and as luck would have it the previous keeper had left a cd in. It happened to be Brothers in Arms.

I have always been keen on Dire Straits but had never owned/listened to this album.

What quality! The track called 'One World' is stunning and I had gone all these years without hearing it.

It made the journey home very enjoyable despite struggling with a very sensitive clutch

despite that, the track "Brothers in arms" is a real tear-jerker,given the subject matter and it is a timeless piece of music. The guitar playing is out of this world - simple and stunning

The best version was the one released last year for the 25th anniversary of The Falklands war, totally stripped down an "de-slicked", it let the SONG shine through and not Bob Clearmountains (or whoever it was) terrible 80's production.

As you probably know, I'm a huge Elvis Costello fan but there are at least 2 of his 1983-84-85 lp's that are unlistenable, nowt to do with the songs, but the dreadful mid 80's sound by people like Hugh Padgham and Bob Clearmountain.

When he brought Nick Lowe back for "Blood And Chocolate" the results were awesome.

Grave, even The Damned's 80's albums are overboiled pap.

Cheers, I will try and get hold of their first album. Never heard it before.

ps, I would agree that some of the Damneds 80's stuff was overdone but I thought the black album was incredible

I've heard that there's a factory in Germany that solely makes the Brothers in Arms album.

Still yet to understand why

Many many times but never in the band.

Wouldn't say I did it by myself, Dave MacCreedy was very much involved as well.

But, I did arrange the thing with PCM - Paul Crockford Management (Knopfler's Manager), Universal Music and Mercury Records.

Oh, I also designed the artwork.

Any doubters? Wanna see the sleeve credits?

Mr Elvis was referring to the Monkeyhangerz project as the first record.

I thought you had said that Mark Knopfler was involved in the Monkeybusiness CD. Which is quite cool.

It's even cooler than you think.

Mark Knopfler has sold lots of CD's. Monkeyhangerz sold lots of CD's too. But here's only one Mark Knopfler and there were tons of Monkeyhangerz and he still couldn't finish in the charts higher than us that week. Some of them were only eight and some of them were really fat.

Conclusion: he's alright but he''s not as good as the Monkeyhangerz.

The weeks he was at it we didn't even bother. Couldn't be arsed. stpid stpid

It's worth repeating that whilst Mr Elvis and myself took most of the media plaudits, in my opinion the man of the match was Ripper.
