It has been alleged that a major local haulage firm may be in liquidation although there is no proof of this at this point in time.

Personally I have no doubts at all that the country will grind to a halt within 6 months the way the fuel prices are going. today even before 9am prices had moved up 1.6p!!!!!!!

read this; this is meant to explain why.....
I get these about 15 times per day;

Market Talk

The market rose sharply and hit new records Thursday, with supply worries, rising global demand and a slumping dollar keeping oil prices on an upward track.

With gas and oil prices setting new records nearly every day, many analysts are beginning to wonder what might stop prices from rising. There are technical signals in the futures market, including price differences between near-term and longer-term contracts, that crude may soon fall. But with demand for oil growing in the developing world, and little end in sight to supply problems in producing countries such as Nigeria, few analysts are willing to call an end to crude's rally.

Investors seized on a U.S. inventory report Wednesday to boost prices, but traders interested in pushing prices higher are increasingly picking and choosing the news they wish to pay attention to.

Analysts say crude has been boosted in recent days by especially strong demand for diesel in China, where power plants in some areas are running desperately short of coal and certain earthquake-hit regions are relying on diesel generators for power.

Overnight, the rise accelerated when the U.S. Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said U.S. crude inventories fell by more than 5 million barrels last week. Analysts had expected a modest increase.

The EIA said gasoline inventories also fell, which took the market by surprise as well. Inventories of distillates, which include heating oil and diesel fuel, rose less than analysts had expected.

Investors see hard commodities such as oil as a hedge against inflation and a weak dollar and pour into the crude futures market when the greenback falls. A weak dollar also makes oil less expensive to buyers dealing in other currencies.

Many investors believe the dollar's protracted decline over the past year has been the most significant factor behind oil's rise from about $66 a barrel a year ago to today's highs.

Exchange Rate

Pound Sterling hit a session high against the dollar on Thursday and UK rate futures and gilts fell after a UK retail sales figures, while weak, were more resilient than market participants had been expecting.

Figures showed that British sales fell 0.2 percent in April from the previous month, clocking a slide for the second straight month but coming in slightly stronger than forecasts for a 0.5 percent fall.

The data added to expectations that the Bank of England may not cut interest rates in the coming months as the economy may not be as grim as some had been expecting, while inflation risks remain high.

sad news for the firm and its workers if true. Only recently have the Govt spoke out at the profiteering of the major oil producers - quite a true accusation, but at the same time laughable given who is making said accusation!!!

The likes of the OPEC are killing in the market. They hold most of the worlds oil and profiteer, not on at all like!

I got told off a rep who was told from her mate who works up your neck of the woods! Its nuts, the firm in question are huge!

We deal with the firm in question and I have just been speaking with them.
They say this is totally not true, and are fed up of getting asked.
They wanted me to tell them the website so they can sue the person who
has posted this message. I have refused to give them that but i think this thread should be removed in case someone else gives them this message

The haulage industry are reaping what they have sowed over the years. Since the early nineties they have been cutting each others throat by undercutting and undercutting. Now that their costs are rising they can't sustain their daft pricing structures.

Besides, if truckers spent more time concentrating on their business rather than planning their next murders they'd get on a lot better.

It really is quite funny to see Gordon Brown blaming the OPEC countries when his Government are making more and more out of the petrol price rises.

I have yet to see them offer to cut fuel duty to help ease the "pain". They take at least 75p a litre.

The man is a complete arse.

Gawd Bless Amuricuh......

The septics are attempting to take the OPEC countries to court for price fixing. Seeing as the OPEC agreement is ONLY about price fixing and none of them are American companies, they'll have to prosecute them in their OWN countries.

Have you ever had a piss against the wind??

Have I ever mentioned that where I live it's completely self reliant on bio-fuel?? Made from sugar cane waste and tapioca which would even grow in Wagga??

I was recently told Eddie Stobart has moved his entire firm to France saving on fuel and road tax as the vehicles dont pay tax on English roads when based in another EU country.
