I read recently the following official HUFC programme extract:

"If the present negotiations for the purchase of the Ground are successfulit is intended to proceed as soon as possible with the erection of a new Main Stand".

Imagine my excitement until I looked at the programme date, 12th April 1947 versus Stockport County. Lets not hold our breath then!

Out of interest I have been collecting Pools Home programmes for some time (not a lot else passes as entertainment in Northumberland unless it involves sheep and I still have a restriction order in force which we won't go into) with a view to collecting at least 1 from each season. The one above is actually my oldest and I am struggling to get any further back.

Anyway as it is close season if anyone one want to shout out a season I will pick out a programme and provide some details (team etc) although it might take a day or two at times.

Have you, or anybody else, got a Pools programme for the match we played closest to 12 December 1973?

The closest I have Ripper is about 6 weeks later against Stockport County

The team that day was

B. Watling
G. Potter
J. Shoulder
M. Dawes
A. Goad
J. Honour
D. Heath
A. Gauden
M. Moore
K. McMahon
W. Ward
Sub: R. Smith

I believe we thumped them 3 - 0 in front of a big crowd of 5,747. Crowds around that time were generally low (2 - 2,500) so don't know why so many went along. Stockport were third and the game was played on a Sunday but anyone know for sure why the crowd was well over twice the norm???

Eeh 1947 I was only three days old when they were trying to buy the groung (sic) or was it 1974 when I was a strapping lad arriving in Liverpool to do missionary work. Bit like the bible this account like . Must have had as much to drink as me

Mr Ripper
Got 26th January v Torquay if it's of any use to you

Northumberland
Ashurst's programme notes in the Torquay game:
"On the theme of Sunday football, Hartlepool want to offer foootball when the paying customers most want it. Next weekend is an experiment on our part, and only your support through the gates will tell us whether or not you want professional football on a Sunday in Hartlepool. Other clubs have done well at the gates by playing on a Sunday, but of course this doesn't mean that we willdo so. The reaction of the public next week will tell us what they thinkabout the change."

No Frodraff strictly tee total.

By coincidence the 1947 game is my oldest and the 1974 game was the closest to the date Ripper requested. Both were against Stockport County.

I've had an email from the club saying they are interested in featuring the 1947 programme in their "old programme" feature to take a regular slot in the centenary year programme particularly with reference to the ground purchase.
