I wholeheartedly agree on this one, I feel disgusted and embarresed, like someone said, a small plaque or something would have been enough, (though why we had to get a Newcastle player to do the honours is beyond me anyway).
Even the fact it's splashed all over the main page of HARTLEPOOL UNITEDS Official web site digusts me.
Very sad indeed.

Surely the Centenary Suite should have been opened by the duly elected Player of the Century sctatchinghead
Mind some on here would have complained about that as well.

Can we presume that we will be having a centenary match against our first ever competors - seem on the cards.

I would have found the oldest fan and the oldest living ex player ( maybe Ken Johnson) and asked them to do it together. I am not going to criticise or condone what has happened because I can't believe there is not a motive behind what has happened and the way it has happened.
Unfortunately IOR/Ken Hodcroft very rarely discuss these decisions in public and certainly not with the fans. That is their decision.

This for me and the rest of the Poolymads is TOTALLY unacceptable to have this painting adorning the wall of this lounge.

Ok the first game at Victoria Park was with the Mags and all that but why do we have to have a painting of a Newcastle player up on the wall to mark OUR CENTENARY,WE ARE HARTLEPOOL UNITED FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

We have just voted our player of the century so why have anything else.

I would have thought that the naming of the lounge would have been a perfect opportunity to give the late great Harold Hornsey the recognition that is now well over due.

I did last season go into this lounge and enjoyed the meal etc BUT the Poolymads WILL NOT be going back in until this painting is replaced by a one more fitting with OUR club.

Who am I to have the audacity to demand such a thing,I am just an ordinary fan but mark my words I will be still a POOLY long after IOR have been and gone.

Ah Mutley, you won't be talking like that when he gets us into the championship. You'll be wanting your photo taken next to your favourite picture. Where is it hung again?

Personally I think he'd do well at Pools and would bring great publicity as well as great links with teams for better quality players. It would show that Pools are moving places, getting such a manager. He would bring top quality (and probably experienced) assistants too.
Whatever anyone says about them, Paul Ince and Roy Keane havent done bad.
Whether or not Shearer has the ability to manage at the top level is a totally different matter and if he came to Pools, we would only find that out at a later date. But at this level, he would make a great appointment and I'd be deighted.
As it happens, I think there's no chance he would come to us anyway
And regardless, the picture and opening by him is a disgrace and it obviously should have had pools connections

Not many trophies, true, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear can you eh?

Nope, apart from one of the best win to loss ratios in League history.

Well we were talking (rather whimsically I'll admit) about potential Pools managers weren't we.

If in our last 400 games, discounting the disastrous 2005/6 season so as to give the others a chance, we'd had a manager who had averaged 1.74 points a game, we might possibly have increased our trophy tally don't you think? We might even be playing in the Championship.

But not one out of Turner, Newell, Cooper, and Wilson have ever matched that kind of yield. Newell got closest with 1.65 ppg (sorry if that stat upset anyone's preconceived ideas) but he was only here 5 minutes. The rest trail way behind with 1.52 (Turner), 1.54 (Cooper), and 1.55 (Wilson).

1.74 a game might not be good enough to make inroads against Chelsea or Manchester but it's enough to ensure 80 points a season average, which will get you a long way in any other division.

Disclaimer: I AM NOT advocating Shearer for manager, nor Keving Keegan for that matter.

Yes we were but I wasn't saying anything about Pools winning Trophys....I was saying I wouldn't want Shearer to be our manager because basically I don't think he would make a decent manager for us never mind Newcastle!!!! confised

And then someone mentioned Paul Ince and Roy Keane as if to say that they were top players and are decent managers so I named a few Top Players who were/are horrendous managers!!!!

One thing would be horrible though - having the town end singing "shearer, shearer, shearer" like the geordies do. That would be wrong.
Also, living in a shearer wonderland just wouldnt sound right. Its like an oxymoron (?). He's so dull, Shearer Wonderland would be like normality for most people.
