Agree why was it not a poolie legend to open the suite or more so Mrs Harold Hornsey.

When I found this out, I too had a foul mouthed rant.

I am not happy about it.

Anyone but Shearer.

We've had more links with Darlow than Scumcastle. Would we have a portrait of Craig Liddle on the wall as well? NO.

I agree with Chip Fireball - if the relationship between us and Newcastle Utd is so good why don't they help us out with a few loan players?

It just seems that Hodcroft wants to pay homage to Shearer and his ex-club. We are becoming the Tony Blair to their George W Bush refred

I would support Darlington before Newcastle. No irony intended. Seriously I detest those patronising nonentities and Ken Hodcroft has dropped 1000% in my estimation.

Being a mackem, I can't imagine Mark Simpson is over the moon either.

You can support who you like. Who you support is not relevant, especially if you could even mention the words support and Darlington in the same sentence.
This was not Hodcroft's idea. The portrait of Shearer was gifted to the club by Jack Nixon and Hodcroft, being the polite gentleman that he is, accepted it. At this moment in time it is hanging in the Centenary Lounge as a mark of respect to the man who donated it. It may not always hang there.
I suppose that Hodcroft could have spit in the old boy's face and burnt the portrait. Jack Nixon is an adopted Poolie and what he did was with the best intentions and a gift to the club.
Nothing more and nothing less.
However we musn't let stupid prejudices, hatred and lack of respect get in the way of a well intentioned gift.

I am not trying to justify it. I am trying to tell you why Hodcroft accepted it. It was not as if Hodcroft had commissioned the portrait was it? Jack Nixon turned up with a portrait of the man he had discovered and preferred to give that portrait to Pools. That was HIS choice. If Nixon hadn't turned up with the portrait then Hodcroft wouldn't have been put in the position he was. Think about that for a minute. The portrait was donated to the club and not to Hoddy personally, which would explain why he hasn't hung it above his bed.
If you are so bothered about the 'history' of why the portrait ended up at Pools why don't you go down to the club and ask them personally. You are jumping up and down ( as usual ) and jumping to conclusions ( as usual ) over something you have not bothered to research ( as usual ).
Have you never received a gift that you might not have appreciated but, in the interests of being polite, have appeared to be over the moon with? Have you never considered that may be the case here? Or would you rather just dive in?
Sometimes, Mutters, the answer is quite some way from the end of your nose. Have another look.

I was sat in the engine room office this morning when I first came into work and was reading the Echo and was totally gobsmacked, thinking is it just me who thinks this is complete and utter bollox...? I mean why St Alan, don't we have enough Poolie legends capable of performing the task instead?
The very idea of Shearers face beaming down like some footballing Kim il Sung on the assembled humble Poolies is enough to make you vomit...what about a painting of some worthy poolie legend, or doesn't that attract the same media response or impress the more gullible Poolls supporters who are are only to ready to recognise their 'betters'......
I DON'T KNOW WHO THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO IMPRESS, BUT IT'S GOT THE CLOSE SEASON OFF TO A CRAP START FOR ME... a marketing bollock has been well and truly dropped and a lot of Pools fans patronised. Do you reckon Newcastle would put a picture of any pools player in pride of place if I commisioned a painting.... so how about showing us some respect and not offering the thing to us in the fIrst place, THAT'S THE PART THAT MAKES ME ANNOYED, the idea we'd actually be happy to be patronised and they can't see it as such

A minor point, the chap who donated the painting is called Jack Hixon, the scout who discovered Shearer. So I can understand his pride in it, and as he almost certainly knows of KH's interest in the Barcodes, can appreciate why he gave it. It will be gone from the walls of the suite before the new season begins, as I believe that KH is intelligent enough to know it will not go down well with the average supporter. If I am wrong, and he doesn't, he will certainly be made aware of it by most visitors to the room, if he happens to be around at the time.

You are right I am, but your tedious insistance that I am your superhero, this Watty fellow, is getting a bit stale. Whereas I would love to boost your Hercule Poirot image I am afraid I have to disappoint you on this one. Mr I has cleared me on this board and has messaged me stating that he does not consider me to be the fellow to whom you allude. If I said ' stick to the point'.......would that make sense to you?
Sticking to the theme..........if you are so disillusioned as to why the portrait events took the path they did, then why not ask the club. Then you can come on here and enlighten us as to why the chain of events took the course they did. therethere

I just don't think this bloke sat down one day and said to himself....

'I think I'll paint a picture of Alan Shearer and give it to Hartlepool United'!!!!

He might aswell have painted a picture of Barnsley Town Hall for all the relevance of it!!!!

I think for some strange reason that picture has been commisioned because I can't see any other reason why he would give it to Pools....none whatsoever!!!! confised confised

I don't know who you mean by 'you', but if you mean me then no I wouldn't. What I would do however is to take the trouble to find out why the club had put a picture of Pol Pot on the wall, if I was interested that is.
I find that to be a more intelligent way of proceeding, rather than just spouting off like...........well the likes of you.

So why didn't he donate it to Newcastle United???? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Surely they are the obvious recipient of a picture of one of THEIR legends!!!! sctatchinghead

Ah Muttley, you are now listening to my advice. Of course it was commissioned. The burning question is by whom was it commissioned. When you dig a bit deeper you will find it was not commissioned by Pools or Hodcroft. Keep going...you're getting there.

Better than giving us all your 'view' as though you're adressing a public meeting...Pol Pot didn't play footy either.

Then you can come on here and enlighten us as to why the chain of events took the course they did. therethere

I'm not really Mutley you know....that dog off the cartoons....honestly I'm not!!!!

Really..............well what dya know.

I don't give a flying fuck about what the reasons behind this were. Get it the fuck out of there first thing tomorrow. I am insulted by this, and don't give a toss if anyone else thinks it's been done for a valid reason. They can go and drink my boiling piss.

Well if you don't give a toss about other people's opinion then there doesn't appear to be a valid reason to take notice of yours. I'll take a rain check on your offer of a drink, no offence of course.
