I have a 16gb ipod touch, it has wireless internet and it's bloody brilliant. Not the biggest capacity but it does for me (i doubt i'd ever own 16,000 songs to fill it). It plays fillums, photos and all the usual gubbins but on a bigger screen than your usual ipod.

The screen is really good quality and if you surf around the web you can Jailbreak it which allows you to add custom applications. I have a NES emulator and an ebook reader for long trips.

The only gripe I have is the stupid headphones they give you. If you're an audiophile (or like to hear any kind of bottom end in music) then you'll never get on with them so i'd recommend investing in a proper pair.

If you go into the o2 shop then they usually have them on display alongside the iphone so you can have a go of one there

So how does the tinterweb bit of it work?

At home I pay Sky for tinternet connection.

Do I have to have a similar contract for an I-Pod Touch? And if so can I only use the web stuff at home?

you can only surf where there's a wireless access point, at home you'll be fine as sky has a wireless router.

Other places you'll be able to use it are macdonalds, starbucks, some trains, most hotels and other places where you detect an unsecured network and "borrow" their signal

Edit: you won't need a contract for it as it simply uses other connections - If you went for an iPhone though then you get a mobile phone contract and use the internet anywhere. They're really expensive though

What about abroad? Specifically Spain and Portugal? Will I be able to get online there?

As long as you can find a wireless connection you'd be fine

How many albums would I get on a 32gb Ipod touch then?

loads mate, 1gb is usually around 3-400 songs so at 15 songs an album it'd be about 750 albums

Might have to purchase one of them.

Cheers.

I'm not so sure about Portugal but in every major city in spain you can't move for free wireless points.

I've got 11,200 songs in my iTunes and that takes up 11 Gb.

On a personal note though, I like a bit of space between me and the music so I don't like plastic in me lugholes.

I can concur with that, but I'd probably use it more for taking on holiday with them docking speaker things or for in the car if I put a car stereo in that is one of these I-pod compatible things.

And I bet you have the impression you're always listening to the same tunes. I do. Not on an I-pod like.

Edit: hang on now that's less than 1 meg a tune. Sounds like you have compressed them out of existence or else you like a shitload of very short tunes!

At the end of the day, in my opinion of course, CD's and I-Pods just sound CACK. Tinny, Bass-less cack. Compressed, depthless atonal cack. The SCRATCHES on some of my vinyl sound better than most of the TRACKS on bloody Compact Discs and I-pods. I wouldn't give them house-room.

The thing is they take up next to no room though.

I can't imagine you taking a juke box on your jollies with you or wiring it up to your car stereo.

Horses for courses- proper stereo for in the house, a portable one for being, well, portable.

But didn't they find that those wireless whatsits had dodgy side effects, such as encouraging brain tumours?

There's a lot of duplicates in there, and yes, there's tons of short punk stuff. It really does need sorting out when I get a lazy day. In fact I might have a lazy day tomorrow!!

I just bought an ipod and a docking station off ebay, sounds fantabulous and so small, CD player is getting sold, fantabulous.

Gotta love ebay, ipod for £44 quid and docking speaker thing for £29, saving loads off retail prices, free delivery and came the next day too!

Have you got the link Mullet, can you just download tracks and put em straight on or do you need software for those IPods.
